Weekly Re-Up: Presidential Selfies, Future & Beyonce’s “Onions” & More

Posted by Lucas G. on 12/13/13 | Filed under Top Stories, Videos, Weekly Re-Up, General Awesomeness, Fails

Listen, it's Friday, we get it. Nobody really wants to do anything that involves using your brain. So the new "Weekly Re-Up" will provide you with both the biggest "Fails" and the most awesome "General Awesomeness", as well as some other must see shit from the week, and of course some boobs. We will also be including a "Weekend Rewind" selection to give you something to listen to this weekend. It's a whole lot of everything.

Now let's get started...

General Awesomeness

Athletes Doing Good

Between the Richie Incognito saga, the Riley Cooper incident and the Jameis Winston mess, athletes have been having a rough few months. We often think of them as selfish, egotistical, narcissistic overpaid d-bags who don’t appreciate what they have. But every once and a while, they can remind you that for every bad egg, there are more than enough caring, mature and thoughtful athletes who want to give back.

Professional and college athletes (like musicians) are in such a rare position in life. What they say and do deeply effects their fans, and we as those fans feel a special bond with these complete strangers. It is what makes seeing them fuck up consistently so frustrating. Still, plenty of them know that even the smallest of deeds, from a wave to giving a kid your shirt can brighten their day. Take Zach Randolph or Charlie Coyle; both took literally one second to do something nice for their young fans who will likely remember that for the rest of their lives. Not feeling all mushy yet? Well watch this.

How awesome is that? Going through a heart transplant at the age of 11 is unimaginable and for Russell to be able to help her through an impossible time is so awesome. Even cooler he actually uses the wallet instead of some expensive designer one. I don't want to get too dramatic, but it's hard not to think that Russell Wilson helped that girl survive; he kept her spirits up and kept her fighting and that had to help her get through it. Damn, who has been cutting onions in here? Speaking of which....

Future’s “Onions”  will make you cry…with laughter

Speaking of Onions, how about something that will make you laugh instead of sob uncontrollably? Based on the worst rapper conversation we head a few weeks back, it looks like Future isn't exactly a favorite of RefinedHype Nation. If you are in that camp, and even if you love him, you have to watch this video made by  Joe Mande and Noah Garfinkle, who write for "Parks and Rec" and "Workaholics" respectively. It's simple but so brilliant, they simply took what they thought Future said on “Honest” and  made a lyric video for it; “A Teal Latrine” had me dying. This is what the internet is made for; hats off, fellas.

Fails Of The Week

Wale Maaaaaaaddd

Well that escalated quickly (come on, you knew this was coming). So if you are wondering why Wale was creaming at the top of his lungs and threatening bloggers, its because his "Gifted" album wasn’t chosen by Complex for their 50 best albums of 2013; yeah...that's it. Dude, settle down, its just a list from some blog. They aren't life and death (and yes that includes the RefinedHype Awards). Though it wasn’t mind-blowing, Wale had a pretty successful album and is signed to one of the bigger labels in the game. He has a lot to be happy about and has way more money than most of us will ever see in out lifetimes. For a rapper as big as he is (or for any rapper no matter how big) calling a blog and threatening them because you didn’t make their list is not a good look; it makes Wale look desperate and uber butt-hurt.

Did he go into "The Gifted" thinking, “man, I really want to make an album for Complex so they can include on their 50 best albums list”? No, so why is he so concerned with them? I don’t get why their approval is so important to him. I mean he literally threatened to come there and fight them. I hate to see what happens when he sees our awards.Lucky for him he can’t find us because we live on the internet. And take us out Cam’ron...

Funeral Fails

A few weeks ago, Nathan did a fail on funeral selfies, where people taking highly inappropriate seflies at funerals. You might expect teenage girls to do it, because, well, teenage girls are dumb, but now funeral selfies have gone presidential. And not just at any funeral…it was at the funeral of Nelson Mandela. It’s borderline disrespectful anyway, but when you are the President Of The United Sates and the funeral for perhaps the most influential leader ever, you might want to think twice before posing for a selfie. Plus, you pissed off your wife.

Sadly, President Obama wasn’t the worst person at the Mandela funeral. There was this guy who thought it would be appropriate to fake sign language…onstage!

This guy was fortunate enough to be on stage for the important event and instead of treating it like an honor he decided to try and steal the spotlight. His excuse…he sees angels; okay buddy.

It is baffling to me how people can attend such an important, somber event and be completely disrespectful. You have a chance to pay your respects to someone who made the world a better place and instead of doing it you decided to take selfies or fake sign language which of course, took the medias attention away from what really mattered; Fail of the Year for next year and it isn’t even 2014 yet.

Weekend Soundtrack:
It takes a real man to listen to Beyonce, which is why I will be bumping that shit all weekend. Only the Queen B could drop an album (equipped with a video or every song)  completely out of the blue and break the internet. I love that woman. If you don't have the album, we've got you covered.

Comment Of The Week:
RefinedHype Regular MyLeage coming through with some major support. I put myself out there on the Bieber piece not only defending Bieber, but confessing to loving Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone". A big move for a rap nerd. I'll admit, I felt sort of exposed, but then Myleage came through in the clutch and gave me some much needed reassurance with his "I fucked with Since U Been Gone when it came out. dont feel bad". Kelly Clarkson lovers unite!

Booty Of The Week:
Fuck releasing a secret album randomly and stopping the internetz, true power is being the Weekend Soundtrack and the Booty Of The Week; I really do love Beyonce. You can debate fantasy wives all you want, but when she is at her best, no woman can even hold a candle to B (yes that is her in the main pic too). Enjoy the "Partition" Video.
