Weekly Re-Up: Tupac Is The Realest, Holographic Michael Jackson, & More

Posted by Lucas G. on 05/23/14 | Filed under General Awesomeness, Weekly Re-Up, Fails Of the Week

Listen, it's Friday, we get it. Nobody really wants to do anything that involves using your brain. So the new "Weekly Re-Up" will provide you with both the biggest "Fails" and the most awesome "General Awesomeness", as well as some other must see shit from the week, and of course some boobs. We will also be including a "Weekend Soundtrack" selection to give you something to listen to this weekend. It's a whole lot of everything.

Now let's get started...

General Awesomeness:

Prestige Worldwide:

Of all the things we love most here at RefinedHype, Will Farrell is at the top of the list. Okay so hip-hop is number one, but Will Farrell is a close second. The day Will Farrell makes a movie about a rapper is the day Nathan and I can die happy. I don't know about Nathan, but another thing that is in my top 10 best things ever are the Red Hot Chili Peppers--of all the music out there ever, I have probably spent the most time listening to them--so when the two combine, my week is made. If you have ever seen the Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith, than you have probably thought he looks exactly like Will Farrell because he looks exactly like Will Farrell. Well, Chad and Will know it too and, on Jimmy Fallon, the faced off in the drum battle to end all drum battles; don't worry, no balls are placed on any drums.

Ths is like more awesome than I can handle. First, we have WIll Farrell playing drums, and you know what? He's not half bad. Sure the drumming was cool, but when Will broke out that cowbell, my head almost exploded. As a fan of Will Farrell references, I think I can speak for all of us when I say Will Farrell making a Will Farrell reference is the best ever. Will Farrell Inception! That just happened! To top it off, The rest of the Chili Peppers come out to play "Don't Feel The Reaper" with Will on cowbell. I'm literally in heaven.

The Realest Emcee Ever:

Unless your name is Gibbs, Bun B, or Pusha T, if you put on a gangsta persona, I probably won't buy it (looking at you Tyga). The front that these rappers put on is insulting; do they actually think we are stupid enough to buy it? I'm not one for obsessing over nostalgia, but when you think back to the days where a rappers word meant something, you have to hang your head in shame when you look at today's  tough guy. I always think abotu what Tupac would do if he saw rappers flexing on Instagram. as there ever been a more authentic, real emcee than Pac? If he rapped about it, chances are he has already done or is planning to. Even though his music is old, it is breath of fresh air to hear someone live what they spit. This might be a little morbid and, since it's about his death it is weird to put in the awesome side, but this story is just so cool and only adds to the legacy of the one and only Tupac.

Chris Carroll, a police officer, says he heard Tupac Shakur's last words on September 7, 1996, the night the rapper was shot in Las Vegas, Nevada...."I’m looking at Tupac, and he’s trying to yell back at Suge, and I’m asking him, ‘Who shot you? What happened? Who did it?’ And he was just kind of ignoring me. He was making eye contact with me here and there, but he’s trying to yell at Suge. And I kept asking over and over, ‘Who did this? Who shot you?’ And he basically kept ignoring me.

"He went from fighting to ‘I can’t do it,' and when he made that transition, he looked at me, and he’s looking right in my eyes," Carroll adds. "And that’s when I looked at him and said one more time, ‘Who shot you?’ He looked at me and he took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth, and I thought I was actually going to get some cooperation. And then the words came out: ‘Fuck you.’"

Sad? Yes. But how fucking cool is it that even in his last moments Pac doesn't compromise his values. Pac, near death, fighting for life, still has the awareness to know that he doesn't talk to cops. I think this makes him the realest emcee in hip-hop history. The OG of the OG's.

Fails Of The Week:

Rossfit:

I will never, ever be able to unsee Ross trying to flex his man boobs. So much about this is a fail, first, Rick Ross trying to lose weight. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's trying to get in better shape, but I need to get in my weekly dose of Rick Ross fat jokes and if he starts slimming down, I worry about my credibility. Although, from the sound of his diet and "exercise plan" I probably don;t need to worry. I'm no personal trainer, but I'm pretty sure Ross could use a little more than twenty minutes a day of power walking. Also, any benefit from the brief cardio is lost when he says he can eat whatever he wants still. Three 7-11 hotdogs sort of cancels out any light walking doesn't it? I would also like or the record to show that Ross said, "I forgot what fruit had tasted like". Seriously?! Fruit? You would think he would have had strawberries covered in chocolate or orange juice or something. Still, the worst part is seeing him flex and show off. Gross.

P.S.- Is it just me or does Tim Westwood kinda suck?

Beat It, Holograms:

This is exactly what I was afraid of after Tupac. A run of hologram performances filled with artists that shouldn't be holographically remastered. Tupac was great. It was a unique, one time kind of thing. However, now, hologram performances just don't feel right. The Eazy-E one was underwhelming, but this one was downright bad. Of course leave it to them to make the worst one the hologram that simple has to be perfect if you are going to do it at all. You can't ever capture the magic of Michael so why even try?

I hated this performance. First, the whole principal is off, what's exciting about watching a computer generated image dance? Watching Michael dance is amazing because he does things no human should ever be able to do. The hologram does things no human can do because it isn't human. It takes that personal, human touch and completely ruins it. This is essentially a glorified music video. Plus it seemed like the dubbing was way off and at times the choreography felt off. It just wasn't special and no hologram ever will be again. People will continue to trot them out there because they make headlines, and more importantly, make money. I just don't like where this is headed; how long before some company buys hologram rights to sell their product? It's a slippery slope and it needs to stop. Tupac was a special moment and we should leave it at that.

Weekend Soundtrack:

The Roots new album is out and I haven't had a chance. May not get one till next week so when I have free time, I'll be bumping some classics from the legendary Roots crew. Any day is a good day for Black Thought.

Booty Of The Week:

Candice Swanepoel was named  number one on Maxims hot 100 list. Re-up is still a bigger deal though.
