Weekly Re-Up: Animated Tupac, Dr. Dre & Kendrick’s Pill & MorePosted by Lucas G. on 12/06/13 | Filed under Top Stories, Weekly Re-Up, General Awesomeness, Fails |

Listen, it's Friday, we get it. Nobody really wants to do anything that involves using your brain. So the Weekly Re-Up will provide you with both the biggest "Fails" and the most awesome "General Awesomeness", as well as some other must see shit from the week, and of course some boobs. We will also be including a "Weekend Rewind" selection to give you something to listen to this weekend. It's a whole lot of everything.
Now let's get started...
General Awesomeness:
Jigga, What Album Is Best?
Us rap nerds love to debate about anything and everything. From the best Kanye albums to what constitutes “cultural influence” and how it factors into deciding which album is the years best, nothing is too minute or unimportant to debate. Well, those who like to argue about, say Jay Z's best album now finally have a way to settle any spirited debates because Jay himself posted a message on lifeandtimes.com ranking his own albums; he even added a few little (yet very honest) notes.
1. Reasonable Doubt (Classic)
2. The Blueprint (Classic)
3. The Black Album (Classic)
4. Vol. 2 (Classic)
5. American Gangster (4 1/2, cohesive)
6. Magna Carta (Fuckwit, Tom Ford, Oceans, Beach, On the Run, Grail)
7. Vol. 1 (Sunshine kills this album…fuck… Streets, Where I’m from, You Must Love Me…)
8. BP3 (Sorry critics, it’s good. Empire (Gave Frank a run for his money))
9. Dynasty (Intro alone…)
10. Vol. 3 (Pimp C verse alone… oh, So Ghetto)
11. BP2 (Too many songs. Fucking Guru and Hip Hop, ha)
12. Kingdom Come (First game back, don’t shoot me)
Hard to argue with the artist made themselves. Honestly, I’d take "Kingdom Come" over "Magna Carta", but I think his opinion is a little more credible. Anyhow, I would love to see other artists follow suit and do this; its so cool knowing what the artist thinks. Wouldn’t you want to know whether 3 Stacks liked "Aquemini" best or if "ATliens" was his top pick? What about Kanye? Or Lil Wayne (when it comes to all those mixtapes)? Sweet baby Jesus my brain can’t take all this nerdery!
Draw-A-Pac
One of my favorite videos on the internet ever is the animated story about Doc Ellis pitching a perfect game…on acid. There is something about the cool animation that really makes the story so enthralling. I got the exact same feeling when watching this animated Tupac interview. The story is really fascinating. Hearing what he said with the perspective we have now is really cool - the very beginning where he talks about the best case and worst case scenario is almost eerie - and lot of what he said remains true today. What makes it even better is the dope animations. It almost gives you a story time with Pac-kinda vibe, as opposed to a interview setting and really works to humanize Pac (even though it is animated). Aside from how passionate and humbled Pac was, what stood out to me was that Madonna reached out too him. Could you Imagine a Tupac Madonna collab?!
P.S.- Still the best Animated Tupac
P.P.S.- If you are a hip-hop nerd you should very excited to see organizations/companies like PBS and NPR giving hip-hop some attention and legitimizing it to those who still dismiss it.

Fails Of The Week:
Kendrick and Dre With (Maybe?) Give Us Hip-Hop Blue Balls
I know it seems weird to put Kendrick in a fail, especially when the video does have some awesomeness, but it is more about the use of the song and not the song itself. So basically the premise of this commercial is Dre and K.Dot in the studio recording. The first go, something seems missing, so both take a break and then, using their handy dandy Beats Pills (which are probably good, but totally overpriced and will definitely make a killing), they realize the track is missing drums. Then Kendrick hops on and proceeds to do what he does best, kill it; "it’s aliiiiiiiveeeeeeee!!!"
After the commercial two thoughts ran through my head. First, I thought, “sweet baby jesus can Kendrick spit." Not exactly breaking news, but true nonetheless. My second thought is where the Fail kicks in. I thought “I bet this song never sees the light of day.” The song I dope, no question, but I have some serious reservations about it going beyond just a song for a Beats By Dre commercial. Like how the fuck are you going to tease with this song and then only use it in a commercial? And don’t even get me started on if this somehow means "Detox" is coming.
Of course ,this has the potential to move into awesomeness if it's released (or appears on Kendrick’s next album), but for now it belongs right here in the Fail section. You can't give us a few awesome Kendrick lines and expect us to not want the whole fucking thing! If it is released I will happily eat crow; prove me wrong Dre, prove me wrong.
Pitbull & Ke$ha (Not Really But Totally Definitely) Ruin Music Forever
Technically this was more of a Fail of a few weeks ago, but forgive me if I am not up on the latest Pitbull video. Anyway, Pitbull and Ke$ha teamed up to drop this pseudo-country pop song entitled “Timber” and the results are what you would expect. If there are two worse artists who make nothing but bubblegum, radio/club friendly garbage then I don’t know ‘em, so you can only imagine how truly awful it is when they get together. This might be one of the worst songs of the year; and this coming from a guy who likes a song by the Biebz.
Pitbull is yuck as usual; I don’t know which is worse, that horrible beat or Pitbull's basic flow. Also what’s the deal with Kesha? Sometimes she looks ok and then others she looks like a long-nailed mermaid fresh off a three month PCP binge, I cant get a read on her and it only adds to the frustration. Also what’s with her awkward boob grabs. Normally RefinedHype is all about boobs, but she is so awkward and unnatural with it; I like a little subtlety to my boobs and her forcing it besmirches the art of the boob flaunt. So Pitbull and Kesha ruined two things I hold dear, boobs and music, I now have nothing else to live for…

Gambino…duh. I have listened to bits and pieces and have learned enough about it to know this isn’t album you should listen to in bits and pieces. I am really excited to sit down with this album and give it a thorough listen. What stands out to me so far is Gambino’s range and versatility. Don’t have it? Comment Of The Week:
RefinedHype Nation is the greatest! Not only are y’all passionate and educated, but you are funny and clever too; it is what makes y’all special (pat yourself on the back). The comment of the week goes to Daniel Hill for his post on the Drake album of the year post.
Everyone's argument for Yeezus seems to be that it *will* be more influential than NWTS. Considering that this article is talking about the most influential album of 2013 and not 2031, right there your argument is out the window.
Eminem made his influence 10 years ago. He's him now. Yeezus is too "different" right now to see any influence take hold at all. For God fucking sake don't even try to mention anything Kendrick. He didn't have an album out this year. Honestly, A$AP and his mob are the closest, if you ask me. You should have been at his damn show at Bonnaroo this year. It was a fuckin' problem (hey remember that time Drake was in that one song?). Their YouTube views aren't too shabba, either.
Where the music was concerned, simply put, Drake and his material had the largest presence. Kanye had those sick videos playing on buildings around the world before Yeezus dropped, but now Drake is filling those buildings up with sellout shows to crowds just waiting to scream about how they started from the bottom, chant "I get it" a quadrillion times, and, perhaps, be on their worst Caucasian behavior. They all probably bought a Started From the Bottom t on the way out.
This all happened while Kanye isolated himself in the hamtons, where he was leaving Hampton spouses afraid to walk under black lights while wearing their Hampton blouses. It's just not the same. Kanye may be tearing shit down, but Drake will just build and build more, while Ye just builds and destroys...for now.
Man I really got carried away there.
First, he had some great A$AP Ppuns, and I am going to write a note to include more hip-hop puns ASAP (see started already). I mean he ran a "1 Train" on pun game; pure "Goldie". He also dropped some serious knowledge regarding Kanye being more influential down the road but Drake having the bigger year and I loved that last paragraph with the Dark Knight-esque shit about Kanye building and destroying. But mainly, the man turned Shabba into a play on words…genius! Props Danny boy…this next segment is for you.
Of Course...Booty
Modern Family is sneakily one of the best shows on TV and it isn't just because of Sofia Vergara....but she totally helps. She is a knockout and is pretty damn funny... here she is when she was younger. You can see more via thechive.com, but these are my favorites.
