Weekly Re-Up, the Early Edition: Giving Thanks for Fails & AwesomenessPosted by Lucas G. on 11/27/13 | Filed under Humor, Weekly Re-Up |

Okay turkeys listen up! Tomorrow is Thanksgiving which means that today is filled with half-days at work and sitting in traffic so you can get drunk with some relatives while you watch football and stuff your faces. Believe it or not, we here at RefinedHype too need a little time off from blogiddy blogging, but it wouldn’t be right to send you off into the vacation without something. So we present an abbreviated version of the "Weekly Re-Up". Oh and don't worry, of course we will give thanks for boobs.
General Awesomeness - Breaking Awesome
It has only been a few months and I have had "Walking Dead", "Boardwalk" and few other shows to keep me busy, but I have a feeling, when football and all my stories are over, I am really going to start to miss "Breaking Bad". Not helping is this awesome video of Walt and Jesse (I can’t use their real name because they will forever be Walt and Jesse) reading the script of the final scene of the series. I am such a nerd for the behind the scenes moments—I always wonder what it would like to be on set of a movie or in the studio with a rapper—and his is about as epic as it gets. Reaction videos are a dime-a-dozen, but seeing the actors reaction for the very first time is so rare; especially when it comes to the very last scene of the series. I want to be there curled up in a snuggie with a puppy as I hear them read it. I swear Jesse was about to cry! I need this for all my shows and I need it now.
Bonus Points: The Vice documentary of the real Walter White is awesome.

Fails - No Money Mo Problems
Next to getting a date with Jhene Aiko, and having your sports team win the championship, there must be no better feeling than hitting a half court shot at a game. Oh wait, there is one thing better, winning 20,000 dollars because of it. Cameron Rodriguez, a basketball player at Division II Southwestern College, did just that last week at a Thunder game. Now if you are normal, somewhat rational, person with a soul who enjoys puppies and ice cream you probably thought “good for him… a college kid winning some much needed tuition money!” If you are boring, fascist, stuck up, d-bag with no detectable trace of common sense you probably thought “This guy is a student athlete! Under NAIA Rules he can’t have the money because he is under scholarship! Someone alert the authorities post haste!” Well, if you are the latter, technically you would be right. According to an article from Bloomberg.com:
The NAIA student guide says athletes cannot use their sports ability or fame for financial reward. John Leavens, the executive director of the NAIA Eligibility Center, said rulings on these cases typically take one to two weeks.
The article later stated:
Every one of Southwestern College’s 1,700 students receives financial aid through institutional grants to help with the $23,000 annual tuition, according to Brenda Hicks, the school’s director of financial aid. Rodriguez, who is on a $4,000 athletic scholarship, said he pays roughly $33,000 per year when he adds room, board, books and other fees.
If this was Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker at Duke, it would be whatever—they are going pro so who cares really—but this is a Division II athlete who still pays 30K a year with a scholarship. The kid isn’t some hot shot recruit; he is a normal kid who loves basketball, plays for the love of the game, and will never go pro. Where is the harm in letting him keep the cash? Who gets hurt by that? Nobody; so the NAIA does the only logical thing here and stops him from paying off some college loans. Is there nobody in these organizations who says “this isn’t right”? Is there no common sense director or monitor who can step in and have the power to do the only thing you should do and give the kid his money? Is The NAIA run by Jackie Moon?

Weekend Soundtrack:
Instead of a normal weekend soundtrack, I thought it might be nice to pay tribute to some classic albums with “Three Albums RefinedHype Is Thankful For” to celebrate Thanksgiving:
"Black On Both Sides":
Even fans of white meat turkey can love Black On Both Sides! A classic through and through, but don't take my word for it.
"College Dropout":
I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice, and I will say it again, hands down my favorite album ever. Better than Grandma’s pumpkin pie, sorry Grandma!
"Fishscale":
I’ll let Nathan handle this one, here's an actual quote from him: “You could play 'Shakey Dog' at my funeral and I'd rest in peace”. Amen.
And of course….Boobs
