Fox News Tricked Me Into Caring About This Lil Wayne Flag “Stomping” Thing

Posted by Nathan S. on 06/18/13 | Filed under Opinion, Lil Wayne, Fails
I'm not going to front, I run a column called "Fails of the Week". So when I started to see some headlines involving Lil Wayne Flag Stomping floating around the interwebs, my eyes light up like Juicy J at Adult Con. And then I saw that he'd issued an apology.....holy sweet baby jesus this is going to be fantastic. I can't wait to read this shit:

"It was never my intention to desecrate the flag of the United States of America. I was shooting a video for a song off my album entitled “God Bless Amerika”. The clip that surfaced on the Internet was a camera trick clip that revealed that behind the American Flag was the Hoods of America. In the final edit of the video you will see the flag fall to reveal what is behind it but will never see it on the ground..."

So let me get this straight Weezy. You're shooting a video for a song called "Amerika" (with a "k") and you spent a solid minute stomping on a flag, but it was a "camera trick"? Yep, that's exactly what happened. But then I actually watched the video* :

Huh, well then...um...

Believe me, I can't believe I'm saying this either...but I believe Weezy. In fact, unlike the Emmett Till fiasco, I don't think he really has anything to apologize for. Unlike all the sensationalized headlines, that wasn't "stomping" or "trampling" on a flag. That was kinda stepping on a flag that fell behind him while he focused on staring into a camera in front of him. At worst he just wasn't particularly aware he was stepping on a flag, and should have been. And at best he stepped on a flag on purpose but doesn't have to apologize for it because, you know, this isn't Iran. But either way, this is nowhere near the "LIL WAYNE HATES AMERICA VISIT OUR WEBSITE TO BE OFFENDED!!!" headlines I've been seeing.

Looks like I got suckered by some Fox News-esque controversy mongering. Yeezusdamnit, looks like this time the Fails on me. At least I can be comforted by the fact that "Rebirth" was a horrible album. At times like these you have to hang onto everything you have.

* Really? This is 2013 and you don't know you should hold your phone horizontally when recording video? Really though?
