Block Party: Adidas to Re-Release Classic Dikembe Mutombo Kicks

1993 was a good year for basketball – not just because Jordan won his third consecutive MVP title, but also because Dikembe Mutombo, one of the greatest shot-blockers in basketball history, released his first signature shoe. What was probably one of the loudest sneakers of that time, the kicks feature bright colors, including African tribal prints that honor Mutombo’s Congolese roots. And for the first time in 20 years, Adidas will bring back the 4-time NBA defensive player of the year’s iconic '90s silhouette.

Scheduled to arrive on August 24, the nubuck/leather upper boasts canvas overlays boasts woven graphics atop a black/white/red colorway, accentuated by Dikembe’s logo on the tongue, as well as his jersey number on the ankle, which represents his 18-year career in the league. OG styling aside, the price is just as attractive. For $105, you can afford to buy the purple and black, navy blue and patent–leather and other pairs that will drop at a later date.
