In today’s sneaker market, retro re-releases are a huge success – especially in the performance category. And while some of the most popular silhouettes have seen a huge resurgence in recent years, there are still a few signature shoes that could benefit from an updated look. Off the top, five unique models come to mind, but feel free to sound off in the comments section by letting me know what brands you’d like to see restored.

Converse Aero Jam


Remember the kicks Grandmama wore that put the Bobcats on the map? React juice aside, these bad boys made me wishing I could bust moves like Larry Johnson in ’93. The folks at Converse did attempt to re-release the Aero Jams in 2003, but it wasn’t the OG version equipped with the gradient splatter on the midsole or removable straps. It’s time to bring it back correctly please!

Etonic “The Dream Supreme”


In 1986, before Adidas, Jordan and Nike became household names, Hakeem Olajuwon rocked brands that flew under the radar even if they were made for playing golf. That’s the definition of a real sneakerhead to me!

Nike Air Command Force


Frequently worn by San Antonio Spurs Hall-of-Famer David Robinson, the 1990 release gained some notoriety thanks to Woody Harrelson as Billy Hoyle, in the American classic sports-drama “White Men Can’t Jump.” But despite Nike’s massive campaign efforts, the shoe didn’t garner much interest, which many sneaker enthusiasts claim was because of the $175 price tag at the time. However, while that figure was considered to be expensive 23 years ago, times have changed and hype beasts are now willing to pay upwards of $3,000 for an original pair.

The “S. Carter Collection”


By RBK – In 2003, while I was struggling to figure out life after high school, my favorite rapper was inking an endorsement deal with Reebok. The lifestyle sneaker -- modeled after Gucci tennis shoes from ‘84 -- was created so broke kids like me with an affinity for high-end gear could dress as cool as Mr. Magna Carta himself. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to cop any, because mom dukes insisted that all my allowance money be spent on college application fees. Now that I’ve graduated, I deserve the chance to own a pair. Preferably a Brooklyn Nets-inspired limited edition.

Saucony’s Spot-Bilt X-press


Shawn Kemp wasn’t the only Supersonic who wore dope footwear on the court. Xavier McDaniel had heat too, and his first signature silhouette – Saucony’s Spot-Bilt X-press sneaks from ‘87 were no different.
