From Wale to Fat Joe, the Biggest Sneaker Heads in the Game

Posted by Nathan S. on 10/03/13 | Filed under Opinion, Style, Sneakers, Wale, Fat Joe

I'll be honest, I'm not a sneakerhead. Like any other man I enjoy some fresh kicks, but I don't go to sleep with dreams of Jordans running through my head. But...I know a lot of RefinedHype Nation is. So that's why I've joined forces with Sneaker News to give all the kick lovers out there something to enjoy...

-----------------------------

Whether it was RUN DMC telling us about their Adidas or Nas confessing his addiction, sneakers have always been a topic of discussion in hip hop. Sure, a lot of rappers talk about it, who who are really the biggest sneakerheads in the game?

Fat Joe might’ve lost some weight in the last couple of years, but he definitely hasn’t lost his appetite for sneakers.

From boasting about his relationship with Nike to congregating with the average Joes at Sneaker Con Miami, Joey Crack has been a known sneakerhead. While he we have gotten a glimpse of his collection, he promises what has been shown to the public via interviews is far from the complete catalog. I’d also like to point out that he was the first person to lick a shoe on television.

Sneakerhead confirmed.

The MMG rapper has reportedly been a sneaker freak for years, even before he hit it big. His lyrics from one of his earlier mixtapes clearly show that his shoes are his top priority:

“I put you over my money, all of my nice kicks
Mmm Not all of ‘em, some still DS
My DMP frizest, they haven't seen the streets yet”  - “The Light”

Wale is consistently seen with unreleased sneaker samples or shoes unavailable to the general public. His hot source is unknown, but it has been reported that he has a foot size of 9—and it just so happens most sample batches are made in a size 9.

Stardom won’t always get you free shoes though. In this video, he rolls up to Flight Club NYC and buys every pair in the Air Jordan 3 line. With so many pairs of shoes, how does he keep track of them all? Wale let us all know that he doesn’t need a shelf or fancy filing system. Who needs that when you have an entire room to devote to a portion of your sneaker collection?

DJ Clark Kent

Besides putting together some of your favorite Biggie and Jay Z tracks (“Player’s Anthem”, “Brooklyn’s Finest”), he is known as the Sneaker Guy in hip hop. Not only does he have a fresh pair for every day of the week (no really, check his “One a Days” on Instagram), but theman has collaborated with shoe companies countless times.

With Nike, DJ Clark Kent has had huge success working on his 112 line. The line includes SB Dunks, Air Force 1’s, Air Max 1’s, Air Trainers and the Zoom Revis. While the line includes many different Nike styles, all of the shoes were made on limited runs, so they can be hard to come by. However, if you’re feeling like you need to ball out real quick, you can get a fresh deadstock pair on eBay.

Notable Mentions: Stalley, Chris Brown, The Game, Fabolous, DJ Envy, Swizz Beatz, and The-Dream

Even though these guys are the on top of their shoe game right now, just like in the music industry, someone is always looking to take your spot. So don’t sleep! Stay up to date with the latest release dates of hot commodities like Jordans with sites like Sneaker News. Maybe you could be on the next list (you should probably focus on making a hit record first).
