Weekend Rewind: Wax “Liquid Courage”

Posted by Lucas Garrison on 10/25/13 | Filed under Wax, Weekend Rewind

I know I am a little late on this but forgive me for being in another country last week. I was so pumped to see Wax kill it on the BET cypher. Like K.R.I.T and a few others it always makes me proud do see independent artists make it without the support of a label machine (I know KRIT is on Def Jam now, but he got there without any help). I owe a lot to Wax since he was one of the first indie emcees I really got into and he showed me there was a lot more to the game than what was on the radio. His verse for the Vibe Magazine contest is still one of my all-time favorites. To this day, I can recite it word for word:

Anyway, since the cypher, I have been on a little Wax kick, and I thought who would better for this week's "Weekend Rewind". "Scrublife" and "Continue" are great albums, but for me, "Liquid Courage" will always be my favorite from him. This album has it all; from to storytelling, to introspective bars to lines that will make you laugh it is so complete. His flow is so diverse too, Wax is so creative with his vocals. He can adapt to any type of beat and kill it. Very few emcees have the range and creativity he does and the result is a incredible array of styles and flavors. It has been awesome to see Wax grow into a bigger name and although his fan base has gotten bigger, he hasn’t sacrificed his content. As much as look forward to seeing him flourish in the future, sometimes it's good to go back and enjoy the classics.

Take a listen, and if you're feeling properly inspired, you can cop the album here.
