In Which I Completely Don’t Hate On Ricky Hill’s “SYLDD” Mixtape

I'll admit that when Rich Hill first came onto my radar, signing a contract to Warner Bros. nonetheless, I hated on the man. Let's be real. I saw that the white, heavily tattooed millionaire son of Tommy Hillfiger was now "rapping" and my brain went all irrationally Harbaugh.

But that was nearly two years ago now, and in the meantime I've barely heard from Hill (now named Ricky Hill) and have calmed down considerably. So when his apparently long-awaited mixtape "SYLDD" popped up this week, I vowed to take a listen with an open mind. Fuck, who knows? Maybe the dude's actually really dope and I'm missing out because I can't get past the son a millionaire thing. There are some celebrity kids who are pretty damn talented in their own right.

Well, after the most objective listen I could muster....nope. Just nope. Sounds like some Weeknd, drug-binge music, only without nearly the same level of talent. Do I hate it? Not at all, but I feel like I gave it a fair shot, and I can now skip past any new Ricky Hill music with a clear conscience.
