If you are on RefinedHype it probably means you are a rap nerd. While being a rap nerd is something to be proud of, I also consider myself to be ( a much less cool) history nerd. I can’t help it, shit that happens years, decades and centuries ago fascinates the hell outta me. Considering both my expert nerdery in hip-hop and history, my brain exploded when I say this new feature on RapGenius; for all you budding etymologists out there, this is for you. Ever wondered about the history of some famous rap terms, like "crunk" or "fly"? Well now, you can find out when and how often they were used with a fascinating new tool called Rap Stats.

Rap’s history has been traced many ways -- through books, documentaries, official compilations, DJ mixes, university archives, even parties. But until now you haven’t been able to look at the development of the genre through its building blocks: the actual words used by emcees.
We introduce Rap Stats, a tool to plot the frequency of words appearing in rap songs from 1988 through the present day. You can use Rap Stats to perform your own searches at https://rapgenius.com/rapstats

Warning, if you have shit to get done, I wouldn’t recommend even doing one; this shit is more addicting than what Pusha T is dealing. I spent more time typing in absurd shit than actually writing.
