Rap Re-Up: Every Drug Reference From Pusha T’s “My Name Is My Name”Posted by Lucas G. on 10/07/13 | Filed under Opinion, Pusha T, Rap Lines |

Feeling a little depressed after a breakup and just want to eat ice cream while watching "Love Actually"? Listen to Drake. Want to get so high you don’t even know where you are? Snoop Dogg is the best bet. Want to start a drug empire that would put Walter White to shame? Pusha T is your best bet.
Hell, even the title of his album, "My Name Is My Name", is a reference to Marlo, the most notrious villian (or hero, depending on your perspective) in The Wire. You don’t need a lot of background to know he is the king of drug rap. As you will see in the following breakdown of EVERY SINGLE drug reference on "My Name Is My Name", Pusha is the king of cooking up double entendres, metaphors, and super creative references for all things drug related.
So yes, this might have been a little obsessive, but if you're' not going to go through Pusha's entire album looking for drug references, then really, what are you doing with your life? And as always, feel free to hit the comments below with any references I missed.
“King Push”
1) “Dope boys, block bleeders / Gold diggers don't stop either”
2) “Step on the brick like a promenade / Twenty thousand on calling cards /And I'm speaking spanish like Don Omar”
3) “We was sellin' birds over the time port / My first grammy was my first brick / More BMF than billboard”
4) “They name dropping 'bout caine copping / But never been a foot soldier”
“Numbers On the Boards”
1) “King Push, kingpin, overlord / Coast Guard come a hundred goin' overboard”
2) “I got money with the best of 'em / Go blow for blow with any Mexican
3) “Mix drug and show money, Biggs Burke on tour / Twenty-five bricks, move work like chore”
4) "Hit Delaware twice, needed twenty-five more / I see flaw, cracks in your diamond”
5) “Come and meet the pieman”
6) “How could you relate when you ain't never been great? / And rely on rap money to keep food up on your plates, nigga?
7) “I might sell a brick on my birthday / Thirty-six years of doing dirt like it's Earth Day, GAWD”
Note: Number seven might be my favorite one because it works on so many levels. Pusha is 36 and there are also 36 ounces to a kilo of coke.
“Sweet Serenade”
1) "Court cases / ran base and road aces."
"Hold On"
1) “I sold more dope than I sold records/ You niggas sold records, never sold dope”
2) “Like Scarface but it's God's face in that mirror”
3) “Scoring from the heights but I wanted mine purer / Aryan, blonde hair, blue-eyed like the Führer”
“Suicide”
1) “I’m still a snow mover, blow harder than tuba / Designated shooters, turn weed to woolers”
2) “Balance on the scale, I ain’t a Libra either / I’m just a name and number with the means to reach ya”
3) “Been baller, been Jacob, been dealer / Been realer, pound sign, been trilla”
4) “I build mine off fed time and dope lines/ You caught steam off headlines and co-signs”
5) “Fifty in the liquor, unwrapped 'em / Unpacked, powder rise and it fall like Sebastian Telfair”
Note: Love this line. Powder is of course coke, but I also a reference to Lebron James who paired with Telfair when they both came into the NBA. Obviously, his career didn’t go how he had planned.
6.)“Practice it, nigga brick, break down, break dance Crab walk, back spin, tanner than my black skin”
“40 Acres”
1) “This cocaine cowboy pushed it to the limit / You thought Tony in that cell would've made us timid”
2) “We found his old cell, bitch, we searchin' through the digits / Anything Spanish, got me speaking Spanglish”
3) “Old habits die hard That rainy day bag buried in the backyard”
4) “Mix us with the powder, sell us to the masses/We gon' keep it tight, rip it out the plastic”
5) “Big willie with the blow, niggas, I am legend”
6) “Selling hard rock, fuck who I offended”
7) “We growin' poppy seeds on my 40 acres”
“No Regrets”
1.)“Say hi to the bad guy”
Note: Clever Scarface reference
2.)“Dope boy with a cape on”
3.)“All white like Gotti said”
4.)“Mentioned Ye two years ago Yeah, I got that by the square”
“Let Me Love You”
1) "Hey mama come fuck with the shotta”
Note: Even his love songs have drug lines.
“Who I Am"
1) "Knee deep in this dope money / Damn near where my world ends"
2) "Same block, same rock"
“Nosetalgia”
1) “20 plus years of selling Johnson & Johnson / I started out as a baby face monster”
2) “No wonder there's diaper rash on my conscience / My teething ring was numbed by the nonsense”
3) “Gem Star razor and a dinner plate / Arm and hammer and a mason jar, that's my dinner date”
4) “Then crack the window in the kitchen, let it ventilate / Cause I let it sizzle on the stove like a minute steak”
5) “Nigga, I was crack in the school zone / Two beepers on me, Starter jacket that was two toned”
6) “Four lockers, four different bitches got their mule on”
7) “What I sell for pain in the hood, I'm a doctor”
8) “A million megapixels of the Pyrex / Started on the scale digital, my only Timex”
9) “Pure as the fumes that be fucking with my sinus”
1) “18 wheeler gorillas / Black with gold chains, pitch bird like steelers”
2) “Pyrex on the platter like hot sex”
3) “It's no us without 'Cain / Push, my name is my name”
4) “In the kitchen with a cape on, apron”
5) “Coulda been Trayvon / But instead I chose Avon”
6) “Powder face like a geisha / Arm & Hammer for the breakup”
7) “Turn one into two, watch the brick kiss and makeup”
“S.N.I.T.C.H”
No outright drug reference but the whole song is about a good friend trying to rat him out, so it is kind of like one big reference.
Damn, 51 references are a lot. You would think it might get redundant or beaten to death, but Pusha’s creativity with his references keeps it fresh and new. Sure he is a “drug” rapper, but the title doesn’t do him justice. He could do the easy, cliché drug bars, but instead, he chooses to go that extra mile and really puts some thought into his references. The end result is both authentic and original, two things qualities, which are not easy to achieve in a market flooded with generic and inauthentic weight-moving-wannabee emcees. Between the 51 references on "MNIMN" and every episode of "The Wire", I think I'm ready to start moving weight. Call it the follow up to "Breaking Bad"..."Bloggin Bad".
