Perhaps my favorite part of finding new artists (besides sharing them with people) is watching them grow and develop from unknowns to promising talents and, hopefully, bona fide stars. Of all the artists I have found since starting at the mothership and RefinedHype, I think Rejjie Snow (formerly Lecs Luther) might be my favorite. Ever since I happened on his dope, Little Bill style video for “Trumpets” I have been watching the Irish emcee’s career like a hawk. His buzz has been ever-growing, and now with the release of his Rejovich EP and his new video for “Snow (My Rap Song)”, I am convinced, it wont be long until he gets the credit and attention he is deserves.



The growth he has gone through in just a short time is exponential. His Fish & Chips EP, under his old moniker, Lecs Luther, is good, but he is a little rough around the edges and not quite polished; all the elements were there, but it wasn’t quite pieced together right. On “Snow (My Rap Song)” and all of Rejovich for that matter, he sounds like a much more confident, polished emcee. He will undoubtedly draw comparisons too Odd Future, and while I hear it, I also hear an emcee who has a much better way with words. I like Odd Future, but sometimes they rely on shock value more than the traditional elements of hip-hop.

To me Rejjie has a much more refined approach. He drops his interesting bars with such fluidity and it really grabs you. I don’t know what it is exactly, but when I listen to Rejjie, I really listen; his style subtly creeps up on you and while it has a spoken word-esque vibe, it is so fluid and natural. I get that “Snow” might be a little too out there for some - it almost is for me - but even if it doesn’t speak to you check out the Rejovich EP, specifically “Loveleen” if you want to hear him at his best.



Oh yeah, and if I didn’t include “Meddling Loops”, which is one of my favorite videos in recent memory, I wouldn’t be doing my job. Enjoy...
