Meet King Krule: Is He The Next Big Thing?

Posted by Lucas G. on 07/11/13 | Filed under Non Hip-Hop, King Krule
Whenever I need something new and different in my library, I always check overseas first, because often times, some really original, genre bending s**t comes from across the pond. What's hot over there, will give you a good indication of wants to come over here (cough cough Adele cough cough). One artist who has been on my radar for a minute now is King Krule. The 18-year-old is garnering some serious buzz now that he is on the verge of dropping his debut album, 6 Feet Beneath The Moon I expect it wont be too long until he goes global. Ever since I heard “The Noose Of Jah City” I have been eagerly awaiting more material from him, and on August 24th (his 19th birthday) I will finally get my wish.

I don’t know how many fans of The Smiths there are in RefinedHype Nation, but this guy sounds like a new-age Morrisey. I am not a big Smiths fan, but in the right mood I really like them and can appreciate their talent. It might take you a few listens, but I highly suggest you give him a shot. At first, I was a little thrown off, but there is is something off or strange about him that is irresistible. He is pained yet has a youthful vibe that serves as an interesting listen. I can’t put my finger on what it is, but my gut is telling me this guy will be big. To go along with the announcement of 6 Feet Beneath The Moon, Krule also released the tracklist and a single, “Easy Easy” which has the same kind of vocals as "Jah City", but instead less ambient, electronic beat he has a loose string arrangement. Again, really give it a few listens because it can be weird at first, but it is hauntingly beautiful and will grow on you. Even if you don’t like him, just remember where you heard of him first when your favorite rapper samples his shit.

1.) Easy Easy
2.) Border Line

3.) Has This Hit?
4.) Foreign 2
5.) Ceiling
6.) Baby Blue
7.) Cementality
8.) A Lizard State
9.) Will I Come

10.) Ocean Bed
11.) Neptune Estate
12.) The Krockadile
13.) Out Getting Ribs
14.) Bathed In Grey
