It’s All Good: Meet 4-Foot-9 Jayson Carter, College Football PlayerPosted by Max Pete on 10/29/13 | Filed under General Awesomeness, Sports, Its All Good |
These days, all you see and hear on the news is about which country is on the brink of war, the economic crisis and other information that drives fear into your everyday life. I’m tired of hearing nothing but bad news, that’s why I decided to write about positive and inspiring stories that are overlooked by the mainstream media in "It's All Good". This week....
If you were watching college football this weekend, then you might have seen 4-foot-9 Jayson Carter make his debut for Rice. The 4-foot-9, 135 lb walk-on running back Jayson Carter got the ball handed to him after they were up by a huge lead over UTEP.
Carter, who was born with a genetic disorder that stunted his growth, carried the ball for a 1-yard gain on Saturday’s game. That might not seem like a lot for some, but Carter did his job. "I did what I was supposed to…I didn't get negative yards," Carter said, according to the Houston Chronicle.
"That young man is here every day busting his tail on the scout team. He deserves it," Rice coach David Bailiff said, according to the Chronicle. "I'm thrilled we got Jayson into a Division I football game."
In high school, Carter ran for over 1,200 yards as a tailback and scored 18 touchdowns. Carter also played defense and racked up 92 solo tackles, 3 sacks, and an interception as a safety. "When you practice every day, it's like clockwork," Carter said. "I wasn't really thinking about it. It's just one carry."
