Classic Hate: The Internet Hates on Biggie’s “Life After Death”

Posted by Lucas G. on 03/26/14 | Filed under Humor, Notorious B.I.G., Classic Hate, Life After Death

If you ask me, the only good kinds of hate are jokes about Buck Nasty's mom and XFL players. Okay, so Drake jokes are pretty fun too, but for the most part, hate is just a way for really brave people to respectfully voice their well-thought out and educated views in an effort to create a more utopian, caring society. We all dislike stuff, but most of us sane human beings don't really think it's important to let the world know how we feel about that cat video, but there is a special breed who simply must share their highly controversial opinion and should we disagree, undergo a dreadfully inaccurate character assassination It is those people we are here to celebrate today.

Regardless of who is at the top of your list of best rappers ever, Notorious B.I.G is in the conversation; it's essentially a universal truth that he and Pac are the top two, but for arguments sake it's wide open. For evidence of Christopher Wallace's extraordinary talents, one only need to take one listen to Life After Death. Though the album, named one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Ever, was his only second (and his last), it cemented B.I.G's status as one of the greatest of all time. As it just so happens, we are coming up on the 17 year anniversary of Life After Death and what better way to pay tribute to Biggie and of course the haters, than with a Classic Hate: Life After Death edition.

Amazon Reviews of Life After Death:

meaningless! Tupac Shakur was the Langston Hughes, the Marvin Gaye, the Bob Dylan, the John Lennon of this generation with his words flowing from his heart. A true poet.BIG was a commercially rapper that appeals to white suburban girls (no offense to that spector of the audience, but they're certainly nota hip hop crowd)This album is more or less a commercial disaster engineered by the ruiner of Hip hop, Puff Daddy.Don't buy this album, it's good for about one week and then the novelty wears off.

This is a theme we are going to see a lot, so I'll just address it right off the bat. I will never understand while people feel the need to shit on either BIG or Pac because they like the other better. Believe it or not, it's acceptable to like two rappers. Just because you may like Pac better doesn't mean the now, Biggie sucks and you can't ever listen to him; this isn't Team Jacob Vs Team Edward here, it's fucking music you can listen to more than one thing.  You know though, I bet suburban white girls are listening tot he album, you know why? Because even they, like the rest of the world, know it's awesome. Also, look at all these suburban white girls who were touched by B.I.G's music; shit looks like a One Direction and Justin Bieber concert at a Forever 21. 17 years later and the novelty hasn't worn off.

THIS MAN WASN'T NEARLY A POPULAR UNTIL HE DIED. HIS FIRST ALBUM DIDN'T SELL WELL AT ALL, THEN HE DIES, AND HE GOES 5 TIMES PLATINUM. IF U WANNA HEAR THA REAL MUZIK, BUT ALL EYEZ ON ME...

IF I RIGHT MY IDEAZ IN ALL CAPZ MY IDEAZ R MOR VALUD THAN URZ! I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE'RE YELLING ABOUT!!!! I know this is all about Life After Death, but for what it's worth, Ready To Die, which according to this guy "DIDN'T SELL WELL AT ALL" is a quadruple platinum album, so don't listen to him (not like you were going to anyway). Regardless of whether or not B.I.G is alive or dead, Life After Death is a GREAT album.

Anyways, dont buy this album! the lyrics are boring anddepressing. they are especially racist toward white people likemyself. I'd think if I worked for the record label, I wouldn't release this album after the poor guy died because it makes him out to be some sort of hideous monster. I'm sure B.I.G. had the rap skills and good enough intentions to put out a great album, but he was sooooo caught up in what sort of music sells, that he recorded an album of violent dreadful trash. RIP B.I.G. a wonderful, talented, caring individual... but this album is gutter trash.

Oh, poor white guy felt uncomfortable. It's so hard to hear about the struggles of the ghetto from your suburban home. You shouldn't have to think about all the violence, anger, and injustice that is festering the the streets of the inner-city.  Nick Cannon doing whiteface when white people can't do black face and now this? White people have it so rough.

Honestly, tell me what is musical about this. The only thing that changes through any of these "songs" are the lyrics. Let's summarize: some tub of goo talking about being a low-life to the same beat for a few minutes at a time. I'll stick with music.

Same beat? SAME FUCKING BEAT?!? WHAT?!  Not only are you insulting B.I.G, but you are insulting Premo too and for that I can not stand. I know Puff is kind of a joke now, but give the man credit, he did his thing on this alum.  Also, last time I checked "Ten Crack Commandment's" and "Sky's The Limit" are NOT the same beat. They sampled "I Put A Spell On You" for fucks sake! Give the man some credit!

This album is way too overrated by all the controversy surrounding it.The fact is that this album really sucks and is a poor excuse to make money by poop diddy. There are only 5 good songs out of 26 total songs on the album. All the rest are only filler material. This rapper died because the rap world is full of criminals, materialism, greed and jealousy. This guy is no angel himself because he used to sell crack for his own materialistic ends and never really helped his own community when he could have.DO NOT BUY THIS SUCKY CD!!!

Obviously dude is balls crazy, but "poop diddy" is an amazing insult; legitimately made me laugh (because I'm really 10 years old).  Also has this guy never listened to "Juicy"? Doesn't he know he was selling crack to make some money to feed his daughter? Amateur.

Don't get me wrong, the first album is a classic, but with this one, it leaves me scratching my head. All this album is, is a recycles Diana Ross, other 70's hits album with mediocre lyrics and tired skits. The production is so sloppy from Puffy, Buckwild and others that it makes me wonder why this album was so cherished in the rap world. It pioneered what's wrong with rap today - money hungry (convicts) using old tracks made new again with dance and party beats. R.I.P. B.I.G., at least you can't make wack music any more.

So your problem is that this beats contain soul, funk, and R&B samples? Man, you must have a hard time as a hip-hop fan. Also, I rarely get mad at hate, but that last sentence put me in a foul mood. Fuck this guy.

From "Ten Crack Commandments"

<

Tupac Shakur:
biggie who ya foolin you never dealt shit...this fat bitch went to a drama school and studied ballet. I lived the real thug life. I had to sell crack to survive in the projects. I also lit up around 9 punk bitches with my mossberg daily

Same old, some old. Somebody dissing B.I.G because they like Pac. What made this really special though was the time this guy took to comment. This guy could have been like everybody else, but instead he created a Youtube name, equipped with a picture of Pac and commented as if he was Pac. He has no videos or no other activity; he created this account for the sole purpose of this comment. That is some next level, living mom's basement type hate.

All this is dumb. They are all characters. They just wanted to make money. None of them cared about their effects on the ignorant, zombies that we are. -instead of brains we go for money and bit...s f. progress and social advancement

Look, I am not going to sit here and say that BIG is a conscious cat, but at least his shit is real. It might not be uplifting or progressive, but it's fucking authentic. This dude has some deep seeded issues with stuff that happened way after "Ten Crack Commandments". I highly doubt this song is the reason we have fake emcees walking around, but I could be wrong (but I'm not).

Well, I didn't thing I could have any, lower expectations or the internet and then I did this. Each time I do these I lose a little bit of my soul, but this one was especially trying. Anyway, as your bumping Life After Death in honor of it's release just take a deep breath and appreciate that you can appreciate good music for what it is...and that you don't create fake Tupac profiles in your spare time...definitely appreciate that. It wouldn't feel right ending without this.
