I have a tenuous relationship with the one they call Lupe Fiasco. Recently, he has been a question mark, not only has he created this bizarre universe of Lupe stans, but his music has been on the decline. Sure a few songs knock here and there, but when someone who, six years ago, was so different and such a breath of fresh air takes turn, it hurts me soul. Still, with "Kick, Push", The Cool and Food & Liquor, I will forever have a soft spot in my heart for Lupe the killer. He isn't bad now, but nothing hits me like those classics. I'm always hesitant to call something a classic if it was released after Y2K, but I feel confident in saying that some of Lupe's early stuff is classic material. It is impossible to hate "Kick Push"...unless of course you are these people. It's time for Classic Hate: The Lupe Fiasco Edition.

Let's start with the Lupe song to end all Lupe songs. You play "Kick Push" for anyone ever and they immediately fucks with it right? Wrong...

Firmo Ray Valdez: Drake and Lupe are both really good. The diference is that Drake makes bangers and Lupe doesn't. But they are equally good.

I don't even know what to say about this. I feel like every single piece of classic hate can be responded to with this so I'll just use it now. First off, if you are looking for a stereotypical "banger" Lupe isn't the person to go to. Hell, even Drake isn't a go to "banger" guy. But honestly, if you are telling me any Drake song hits harder than the likes of "Go Go Gadget Flow" or  "Put You On Game" than you sir don't deserve the internet. I get you liking Drake more, but in no universe is Drizzy a better emcee than Lupe. I like Drake but based on pound-for-pound, pure rapping ability, Lupe is lightyears ahead. If you are looking for a "banger" why come to "Kick Push" and complain about how it's not a banger?

Chad Rayner: too bad Lupe Fiasco has never stepped foot on a skateboard on his own time... in videos maybe, maybe for the press but Lupe Fiasco sucks at being a skateboarder. even Lil Wayne is better because he tries everyday and skates

I know I shouldn't take the bait here, especially because it has nothing to do with Kick Push, but honestly, what compels this guy to talk from the depths of his ass like this? I don't think Lupe is pushing the skater vibe like he is rap's Tony Hawk. If anything Lil Wayne is more of the "poser" do you really think that after drinking 7,000 gallon of Lean at noon on a Tuesday, Weezy is going to go skating? Also, for someone who claims to know how much time everybody spends skateboarding, this guy certainly doesn't have the lingo down. I haven't stepped foot on a skateboard in like a decade and even I know nobody says "being a skateboarder"...you can just say "skating".

Okay I know this doesn't seem that hate worthy, but after scrolling through mind numbing comment after mind numbing comment, I felt it had to be mentioned. More often than people pleading to check out their hot freestyle or calling someone someone they never met the worst names imaginele there were these skaters who felt that this song sucked because Lupe couldn't do a 900 kickflip ollie mctwist goofy style. Who the fuck cares if he can skate? The dude can rap.

Zach Pull: Another song that Lupe stole from a good artist, no talent at all.

Honestly, these are the worst kind of people. I loather people who say hip-hop isn't original because they sample other peoples work, when in reality, making someone's song and flippign it into something new takes just as much creativity. Besides, it's not like Lupe "stole" it thinking nobody would know the original (which came in at #2 on the Billboard chart). He almost got away with it, luckily Zach was there to let you all know that Lupe didn't make the 1966 classic. Give that man a medal!

 B. Scott "number1seller": The Cool is all about touching on specific topics that Lupe feels no one else will. He puts far too much time into his lyrics and not enough into the flow of his music. There are barely any catchy hooks throughout the whole CD.
What? Does this guy even know things? This guy is literally saying the opposite of anything I have ever heard someone say about a rapper. If I had a nickel for every "Lupe sold out" comment I saw, I would have a gagillon nickels. If I had a nickel for ever person who was mad Lupe didn't sell out I would have enough to buy one piece of Bazooka Joe. This guy is literally saying the complete opposite; he is mad that Lupe totally didn't sell out? "Man that Lupe album was just too smart for me, let me put on that Soulja Boy mixtape, now theres a rapper. No intelligence, creativity, or uniqueness, jsut some catchy ass hooks!" Dude is living in bizzaro-world. Yeah...I'm gonna go ahead and use this again.

Lupe in his own right is truly different from anything out there. yet it seemed like on the album he was TRYING to be different and after awhile it becomes annoying. Now i love what he's attemtpting to do (which in my opinion is to raise the bar in hip hop) he doesn't rely on how many curse words he can drop in one song...brag about how many girls he scores...or rely too heavily on hooks. But in his efforts to seperate himself from the rest, he succeeds in alientaing himself. while there are some phenomenal tracks such as "daydreamin" with jill scott on the vocals..."he say, she say"..."the emperor's soundtrack"...and "real"...most of the album is just...dare i say...corny. i was hoping he would be along the lines of mos def..or common...someone that is different and offers something new, but with this album he was just different. "sunshine" was the typical lovey filler track all rappers seem to think they must toss in complete with extremely annoying hook sung by said rapper."i gotcha" and "american terrorist" both boast awesome beats but the content? not impressive. he has immense potential, he defintely has a lot to say...now only if next time he dropped the quirky swagger and just spoke.

Woah woah woah woah, did you just say Food & Liquor was "corny"? Maybe you are thinking about "Superstar" or "The Show Goes On"...too bad neither one is on Food& Liquor. What about "Hurt Me Soul" is corny? What is it exactly about storytelling hip-hop like say, I don't know "Sunshine" do you find corny? Is it the exquisite wordplay? The extended, in depth metaphors? This album was a breath of fresh air; and it still is. If it was corny, do you think people would talkign abotu it to this day or writing articles defending it from people like you? Also, Carmen Marie, you wanted something new and different and got something that was just too new and too different. I see. So it's just what you wanted, so you don't want it? Imagine this girl on a date; yeesh!

Honestly, finding hate for Lupe was not as easy as I thought. Someone as polarizing as that is bound to have haters, but the comments weren't nearly as informatory as the ones form previous Classic Hate pieces. I don;t know what exactly that means for the state of the internet, but it is interesting to think about. Still, plenty of people found it necessary to poop on our Lupe parade. How anyone ever int he history of everything has a problem with Kick Push is beyond me. I guess where there is wi-fi there is a hater.

P.S.- For the record, I tried to find hate on "Hurt Me Soul" but even that classic is above internet hate. Top 10 hip-hop song ever... yeah I said it.
