Don’t Call It A Comeback, But LL Cool J Easily Had The Best Verse On “Strictly 4 My Jeeps (Remix)”

You've probably already forgotten, but in April of this year, LL Cool J released a studio album titled "Authentic," which didn't do too well as far as sales are concerned. We were treated to a handful of singles from the album, but nothing that came remotely close to the rapper's iconic, early material. So, when I read that LL would be featured on Action Bronson's "Strictly 4 My Jeeps (Remix)" along with Lloyd Banks, I didn't know what in the hell to expect.

The remixed version of the Harry Fraud-produced song kicks off with a verse from LL and it's almost as if we're magically transported back to the late 80's. LL's verse is clever, it's absolutely dripping with energy, and is just dope overall. Short, but it's worth it. Lloyd Banks' verse wasn't bad either, but I definitely would have preferred a second LL Cool J verse instead. Even the lyrically masterful Action Bronson is forced to take a backseat on "Strictly 4 My Jeeps (Remix)." Also, how random is that appearance from Banks? I thought he fell deep into G-Unit retirement with Tony Yayo.

Obviously LL has it in him to drop some really solid bars, but if that's the case why is his own music so boring and contrived? Do LL Cool J and Ludacris suffer from the same "Hollywood Rapper Syndrome (HRS)?"
