When he’s not making the same joke 8,000 times in "Hangover 6: Return Of Jafar", Zach Galifianakis is actually a pretty damn good comedian. He has a few stand-up specials under his belt, but my favorite thing he does is the Between Two Ferns series. They are scarcely released but everytime he does one, they are like a gift from the heavens. The premise is he brings on a celebrity for an interview and proceeds to shit on them and make crappy (yet hilarious) jokes at their expense. No fancy sets, pyrotechnics or mike Tyson cameos, just Galifianakis being fucking awesome. On the latest edition of "Between Two Ferns", Zach’s guest is none other than the legendary Justin Bieber.
A lot of you might roll your eyes and complain because of Justin, but truth be told, I kinda like him. Oh sweet baby jesus no, not his music but his whole persona. He is so over the top and ridiculous, it is kinda awesome. I guess that’s what happens when you hang out with Usher before you can legally purchase cigarettes. While many of you might want more of the “die” and less of the "funny” on this FunnyOrDie.com short (thanks to Biebz), give him a chance. It starts with a small conversation about Anne Frank and time travel and ends with Zach spanking Biber with a belt. Of course there are plenty of jokes in between, like Galifianakis calling Bieber’s fans “Beaners” instead of “Belibers”. Hate on Justin all you want but he plays his part well of the pissy teenager well (mostly because he played himself); it’s quite funny to see Galifianakis lecture him like he is a grown-up.
In the event this is your first "Between Two Ferns" than you have a lot to catch up on. Here are some classics from the series that you have to watch even if you hated the Bieber one.
He might be a comedian, but Galifianakis has some serious acting chops. No matter who he brings on the show, he builds a chemistry with them and the semi-improvised sketches are always funny. It may seem easy, but these could just as easily flop if he doesn’t work well with his co-star. So while we laugh at him, lets also give him the respect due for making us die of laughter.
