How Do You Feel About The Weeknd’s “Kiss Land”? (Album Stream)

They are at it again! Just a few weeks after hosting a “First Listen” of Rapsody’s "She Got Game" mixtape, NPR now brings us a sneak peek at The Weeknd’s new album Kiss Land.

Back in April of 2011, Nathan wrote an article titled Who The F*ck is The Weeknd; how times have changed. While unknown two years ago, The Weeknd has become one of the biggest names in R&B and even inspired the trippy, electronic/R&B hybrid sound yeveryone from Drake to Wiz Khalifa want to cop. Now, after three acclaimed mixtapes (and one compilation album) The Weeknd takes his first crack at a studio album with "Kiss Land"; you can stream it here.

I totally get the buzz around him given how different his sound is. The only problem I have with his sound is that it isn’t sustainable. I really enjoy his stuff in small doses, like picking out selected tracks, but never really listen to his mixtapes all the way through. Perhaps it is because each track has a very similar sound and seems to run together and thus lose my attention. As a casual Weeknd fan, you could play pretty much song and I wouldn’t know what project it came from or really what song it is (except for a select few).

What I am looking for on "Kiss Land" is for him to show a little range. To put it in Kiss Land terms, I want a little more “Wanderlust” (which has a really cool Michael Jackson feel) and a little less “Pretty”. Still, If you love House Of Ballons, Thursday, or Echoes of Silence, then I am sure you will love this. Not much changes, but you won’t hear his fans complaining.

As always, What do you think RefinedHype Nation? Together we can figure out the right amount of hype to assign to Abel.
