Weekly Re-Up:College Dropout Anthology, Drake Gets Touchy & MorePosted by Lucas G. on 02/14/14 | Filed under Humor, Weekly Re-Up, General Awesomeness, Fails |

Listen, it's Friday, we get it. Nobody really wants to do anything that involves using your brain. So the new "Weekly Re-Up" will provide you with both the biggest "Fails" and the most awesome "General Awesomeness", as well as some other must see shit from the week, and of course some boobs. We will also be including a "Weekend Rewind" selection to give you something to listen to this weekend. It's a whole lot of everything.
Now let's get started...
General Awesomeness:
Class Dismissed
Well, it looks like College Dropout Week has finally come to a close. For many of you I'm sure this will come as good news as you might be dropouted-out, but you ain't getting off that easy. Believe it or not, we weren't the only ones to celebrate College Dropout. Pretty much every other site out there had something dope to say about Kanye. I'm not sure how many of them made gif's of Stacey Dash running through an airport, but with interviews, old footage, and some other cool shit, I guess they did pretty OK. If you ain't over College Dropout yet you will be.
If Absurdly Detailed Investigations are our bag, how about a track-by-track review from Billboard? Okay so they didn't get everything right (they were way off on "Breathe In Breath Out") but I won't complain because they also gave us the holy grail of College Dropout nerdery, the College Dropout Oral History. Not surprisingly, Kanye was not involved, but just about everyone else involved in Kanye's life--family, rappers,producers..everybody--shared some of thier stories. The result is a fascinating look into the album like this gem from No I.D.
"I remember when I first talked to him after the accident, and his mouth was all messed up. He was like, 'I figured it out.' I was like, 'What did you figure out?' He said, ‘I’m going to rap about this accident. I'm going to use a song and change the direction. I'm going conscious with my music.’ In my mind, actually not even in my mind, I may have said, ’But you're not conscious how are you going to do that?’ He's like, ‘Nah trust me, this is going to be my direction. I know how I'm going to do it. I got it now. I figured it out.’ I think from there the 'College Dropout' concept took a better form because he let go of the gangsta persona and formed a good concept. Before that he would wrestle ideas, try to make it all line up but it wouldn't make sense. I think that was the moment when he put all the pieces of the puzzle [together] and the idea of 'College Dropout' made sense."
That's not all from Billboard; they were putting in 5 beats a day for three summers type work. Check out this video with directors Coodie & Chicke and some dope behind the scenes footage.
If vintage footage is your thing, then give a big hug to the fine folks at The Smoking Section for digging up footage of Kanye on Rap City. Hearing him talk about the album with the hindsight we have is really crazy. He was so passionate and confident about the album; he just knew. Also, Kanye spits some lines from "Last Call" over "Stand Up" so there's that.
Think that watching a few videos makes you a College Dropout expert? You don't know shit if you don't check out Complex's 15 Things You Didn't Know About College Dropout. Of course, I'd like to think we did some pretty cooly shit here on RefinedHype too. You can check all of it out here. What other album could have inspired a whole week's worth of pieces and only kinda barely get old? Thank you Kanye!
Can We Get Much Higher?
Normally I try to shy away from he random Youtube videos of people falling down or some kid hopped up on wisdom teeth pills, because you can see em everywhere else and they aren't rally that amazing, but this was too good to pass up. I consider myself pretty jaded when it comes to internet videos. It's kinda fucked up but car crashes, sports injuries, and other crazy shit doesn't really ever get a reaction, but this video of two balls crazy Russian spider people climbing the worlds second tallest building had my stomach in knots, and of course my knees were weak, palms were sweaty; luckily no spaghetti vomit though. I kept thinking "stop climbing that's high enough", but those crazy mother fuckers kept going higher and higher; no harnesses, no gloves, just one swift breeze and you are on your way to a two-thousand foot plunge. No joke when he got to the top and stood up, and then high fived, I was clutching my bed but then I realized if I fell it would be onto my super fuzzy Argentinean alpaca fur rug, not a painful, plummet to certain death. Talk to me when you have spend a day blogging in sweatpants, then will see who is living on the edge; point, bloggers.

Fails Of The Week:
With Bob Marley Day and a Drunk Rant within the span of a month, Rob Ford was taking the Re-Up crown, but not so fast says Drake. He also said a bunch of other really dumb shit, which is why he is here. So remember way back when Kendrick got fucked over at the Grammys? One of the only thigns we could take form that is that Macklemore, the co-winner of best rap album, acknowledged that Good Kid m.AA.d City should have won, by sending a thoughtful, yet simple text. Somehow, it made the travesty ok, unless of course you are a Jewish rapper named Aubrey. HipHopDX breaks it down here, but basically he said the following:
Drake recently spoke about the text message Macklemore sent Lamar and said "that shit was wack as fuck."
"I was like, 'You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W, and if you feel you didn't deserve it, go get better. Make better music,'" Drake says in an interview with Rolling Stone. "It felt cheap. It didn't feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?"
To make it worse, he also proceeded to pout when Rolling Stone pulled his cover in honor of Phillip Seymour Hoffman and called the press evil; also because he dissed Kanye and then tried to deny it on Twitter.
I never commented on Yeezus for my interview portion of Rolling Stone. They also took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue.
— Drizzy (@Drake) February 13, 2014tHVMT3VE
And of course, he deleted the tweets after, but he made sure to leave this one up.
I'm done doing interviews for magazines. I just want to give my music to the people. That's the only way my message gets across accurately.

But that's not all folks, now he is taking to October's Very Own Blog to clear things up
Tough Day At The Office
With today being the 5th anniversary of So Far Gone I figured it's fitting to return to it's place of its origin in order to clear the air about an extremely emotional day. I completely support and agree with Rolling Stone replacing me on the cover with the legendary Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He is one of the most incredible actors of our time and a man that deserves to be immortalized by this publication. My frustration stemmed from the way it was executed. The circumstances at hand are completely justifiable (on the magazines behalf), but I was not able to salvage my story or my photos and that was devastating. They ran the issue without giving me a choice to be in it or not. I would have waited until it was my time because I understand the magnitude of the cover they chose but I just wasn't given that option and that made me feel violated. I apologize to anybody who took my initial comments out of context because in no way would I ever want to offend the Hoffman family or see myself as bigger than that moment. I am still the same person. Today I was forced out of my character and felt the need to react swiftly. These days are the worst ones. Waking up after a great night in the studio and it's your day to be picked apart. After dwelling on it for a few hours or days you will come to the conclusion that you brought it on yourself almost every time. So here I am having that moment. I once again apologize to everybody who took my cover comments the wrong way. I respect Rolling Stone for being willing to give a kid from Toronto a shot at the cover. I guess this is a day to learn and grow.
Sincerely,
The Boy
First and foremost, who the fuck signs a solemn, heartfelt apology/explanation "The Boy"? Apologize using the third person a sure fire way to make sure nobody accepts your apology; way to make yourself sound really humbled and regretful jackass. Also, at this point, just stop trying to wiggle your way out of it, jsut shut up and take the L. This is about as stereotypical Drake as Drake can get; Drake aid something, apologized for it by pouting, apologized for pouting, then apologized for apologizing by pouting some more, then he wrote about it on his blog. Sounds like the season finale of Degrassi right there.
P.S . -What a surprise he used the word "emotional" to describe the ordeal.
Worried About This
We've been reminiscing alot about 2004 with College Dropout, but lets take it back een farther to a time when Puff, Biggie, and Bad Boy were on top of the world. Now Diddy is shuttind the Bad Boy studio down and recording albums excetuviely produced by French Montana. Sriosuly, you are Puff fucking Daddy, you could have your pick of talented producers to producer your new album, one which would deifntiely help your bank account nad criddiblity, so you pick French Montana? French Montana wouldn't know a sample if Billy Squier kicked him in his big beat.
Making matters worse, French posted the video above of a now fat Diddy dancing to a beat. Not just any beat, though, a beat clearly sampling "Who Shot Ya". Yes, B.I.G's right hand man gave French Montana the okay to get his grimy hands all over the classic. Hip-hop is now ruined for me. Sorry Nathan, I quit.

Comment Of The Week:
Benjamin Shick basically stole all of my thunder on the Toy Story piece. Not only did he compare the Toy Story Aliens to the whole YMCMB team behind Wayne (perfect) but he officially killed with his Rex's rap counterpart.
Rex is Drake. Excitable, larger than life figure.... who is incredibly sensitive and has an inferiority complex.
Bravo sir. Bravo!

Booty Of The Week:
Ah the SI Swisuit issue, making teenage boys care about magazines since 1964. Chrissy Teigen needs to be my valentine. Sure John Legend can sing, but can he write a blog about Toy Story? Didn't think so. You bring the skittles ![]()
