Welcome to #WatchWednesday, where our resident watchologist Ru Porter highlights some of the doper new wrist pieces to drop. Up this week, we turn our attention to two of the doper pieces showcases at last week's G-Shock 30th anniversary Conference.

I tend to treat whatever I sport on my wrist like a cell phone – it has to have multiple capabilities in order for me to make a purchase. Not only that, but if I’m going to be a loyal customer, said brand needs to constantly evolve as time progresses. And that’s the exact reason why I fancy Casio G-Shock watches. It’s not the style that attracts me, but more so the functionalities that are rather impressive.

On August 9, I had a chance to attend G-Shock’s 30th anniversary kick-off party where the Japanese brand debuted a set of limited edition pieces dropping this fall until the end of 2013. So in true #WatchWednesday fashion, I’d like to introduce my favorite pieces that were mentioned during their Shock The World Press Conference.

Casio America, Inc. is proud to introduce their latest technological achievement with the first Bluetooth Low Energy Smart Watch. The BLE provides Bluetooth time sync alerts for incoming calls and emails directly shown on the display. In addition, there is a “find me” function in which alarm and vibration functions on a smart phone can be activated using the buttons of the watch. Just double tap the face watch to silence the watch alarms, enabling the vibrate alert. The Bluetooth G-Shock will also provide a notification when the phone is out of range of the watch, making sure the phone is never misplaced.

Another cool feature is that the GB-6900 powers wireless communication functions with a single, ordinary button-cell battery, and without consuming any more battery life than a conventional wristwatch. Users can wear it every day without the hassle of recharging or replacing a battery. Battery life is estimated at approximately two years, assuming that the Bluetooth wireless communication function is used for 12 hours per day. Lastly, with the use of a single button an emergency alert can signal 911, making it an excellent choice for people with limited mobility.

Available this October (in black, blue, brown and white) the Bluetooth Low Energy Smart Watch collection will retail for $180 at select Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Tourneau, and www.gshock.com.
All this and you can reduce your carbon footprint?! If only Casio would have created a function that allowed users to read text messages and e-mails on a touch screen, then G-Shock would really be in competition with the other Japanese competitor.



After five collaborative timepieces, G-Shock and Hawaiian-based lifestyle brand, In4mation are pleased to announce a sixth installment of their collaborative timepieces, the GLX150X-7. This limited edition watch is an extension of the redesigned G-LIDE series with a large case design, and offers Tide and Moon Graph functions while seamlessly combining G-Shock’s rugged and tough technology with the In4mation alternative design concept.

The stark white timepiece incorporates the In4mation logo on the watchband, with red accents and black dial. Keeping true to the Hawaiian island surf culture, the GLX150X-7 features tide/moon graphs for the ultimate in tracking high and low tides to anticipate the next big wave. Additional features found in the GLX150X-7 include an easy to read LCD, 200M water resistance, auto super illuminator LED with flash alert, world time (29 different time zones and 48 cities), two multi-function alarms and one snooze alarm, 1/100th second stopwatch with auto-start, countdown timer, 12/24 hr formats, and mute function.
