Meet Waka Flocka Flame: Freestyler Extraordinaire

Posted by Lucas Garrison on 07/17/13 | Filed under Fails, Freestyle, Waka Flocka Flame
A month or so ago, I discussed the Anchorman-esque Tim Westwood freestyle from 2 Chainz. I didn’t think it could get much worse than hearing Chainz rap with a British accent but of course Waka Flocka Flame had to come for the crown. I went back and listened to Chainz’ effort, and it didn’t sound half bad when compared to Waka’s abortion of a freestyle.

There are plenty of lowlights highlights to talk about, from Waka taking literally ten seconds in between lines to dropping a racial slut (Japs) to clearly struggling when the beat changes from one trap beat to another. I think the worst moment, however, is when he just starts saying “Ain’t Worried About Nothing” over and over and over. Each time he does it, I lose 1,000 brain cells. I don’t care if you are spitting over the “Ain’t Worried About Nothing” beat, reciting any French Montana lyrics in your freestyle is equally as catastrophic as yelling fire in a crowded movie theater.

Another highlight comes at about the 1:50 mark. I was literally shocked when Waka couldn’t think of a follow up to “this roley cost about seventy." It’s like watching the fattest kid in gym class climb the rope, you can tell he is trying as hard as he can but there is just no way he is going anywhere; Waka’s wheels are churning, but nothing comes to him. At the very least, just say the same line over again; Waka has no problem doing that because it is all he does in the beginning of the freestyle. After stumbling, Flocka, ever the professional makes the excuse that he’s too drunk to rap. First, I feel like that is a cop out; remind me to break that one out next time I am playing ball and miss a lay-up. Secondly, if he didn’t say he was drunk, I wouldn’t have guessed. Normally when someone is fucked up you can tell, but something is wrong when a “drunk as shit” Waka sounds exactly the same as he does normally; what’s his excuse for the rest of his songs?

Lastly, I’d like to urge Tim Westwood and all other DJ’s to stop hosting freestyles from rappers who we all know can’t freestyle. If Westwood wanted to put on a all-day twerk-a-thon by all means invite Chainzy and Waka, but if you are doing a freestyle, there must be someone in your Rolodex who can actually, you know, freestyle.

P.S.- At least Tim Westwood isn’t all over him like he is the G.O.A.T

P.P.S.- There is a reason why the comments are disabled on Youtube.
