This Week in Hype: NYC’s Greatest Rapper, Musiq Soulchild Beef & More

Posted by Nathan S. on 01/17/14 | Filed under Downloads, This Week in Hype, Podcasts, Closed Sessions

Oh shit, it's Friday, which means you're counting the minutes until you get to leave work and if someone could fill an hour of that time with a rap podcast that'd be great. Well then, "This Week in Hype" is for you my friend.

This week, I go deeper into our ongoing "Who's the greatest NYC rapper of all-time?" debate, tell a story about the time I fought Musiq Soulchild's bodyguards over an elevator, talk Chicago hip-hop with Closed Sessions' DJ RTC and much more.

Discussed This Week:

* As always, shout out to RefinedHype Nation member Tino for that dope theme song. Check out his new joint Back in '86 here.
* Answer this week's trivia question and I'll send you some shit from my house. No seriously, I will. Word to last week's winner Omero Fraire.
* As requested, I explain why Musiq Soulchild and I have beef. It involves a Valentine's Day party in San Francisco, vodka, way too many bodyguards and an elevator. So yeah, it's a whole thing.
* Also, a quick breakdown of the "Greatest NYC Rapper" debate.
* I bring on DJ RTC of Closed Sessions to talk about Chicago hip-hop, watching Chance the Rapper explode, how Closed Sessions is creating a creative community in the Chi and more.
* RTC is a dope human being. You should follow him here, and check out Closed Sessions for more dopeness.
* Today's closing track, we stay Closed Sessions-ed and play Alex Wiley x Kembe X' "No Normal".

If you like things that don't suck you should subscribe to "This Week in Hype" on iTunes. How's that for some reverse psychology?
