Dedicated citizens of RefinedHype Nation (with respectable long term memories) will remember a story we ran a little while back about Jeremy Rose, a Toronto producer who claimed that he was responsible for much of The Weeknd's trade mark sound. Before Abel heard his much darker sound, Rose claimed, The Weeknd was making the same generic, "hopefully Chris Brown will pick up this track and we'll be famous" R&B that everyone else was.

I have no idea if Rose's claims have any merit, lord knows I wasn't in the studio for all the early "House of Balloons" recordings, but this previously un-released '09 track "Our Love" certainly proves that before Abel mastered his trademark "drug induced coma" musical style, he sounded like every other wanna be R&B mofo out there. In other words, he kind of sucked.

I guess if there's a lesson to be learned from all of this, it's you'll never get famous sounding like everyone else. Or maybe the lesson is "when you get famous destroy all your old wack shit." Either way, an interesting listen....
