Back when CDs were the only way to get music, I used to go to Best Buy all the time. Sometimes I had something in mind, but other times I would pick sort of randomly. One of my best random picks was based on the cover of the album featuring a crazy looking duded with wild, dyed red hair screaming on stage with a crowd behind; the album was Tech N9ne’s 2002 "Absolute Power". Tech has gone from a relative unknown to one if the hardest-working most respected emcees in the game. His forthcoming album, "Something Else", will be his 22nd project. The full-length project, set to drop on July 30, boasts 21 songs that are divided into three sections, “Fire”, “Water”, “Earth”.

Holy hell! And you thought French Montana had a ton of features. The big difference, is that Tech is talented enough to pull it off. While it looks overwhelming, I completely trust Tech to manage. He is notorious for long albums and I don’t think he has ever made a bad song so he definitely knows what he’s down and no feature will be haphazardly concocted to make the radio. There are a few features that jump out at me, Big K.R.I.T and Cee Lo, both on “That’s My Kid”, and Kendrick on “Fragile” is definitely one to watch out for. Danny Brown and Game make appearances too; Tech even has The Doors on the album. With all the talk about the 18th, the summer album of the year might come right here. While pretty much every song here seems like it could be a single, “See Me” featuring Wiz Kahlifa and B.o.B. got the nod.



I dig this cut minus Wiz. The southern splashed beat from Drummer Boy gives it a crusin’ vibe and Tech’s crisp, speedy flow is a cool contrast to the more relaxed production. B.o.B’s hook is catchy, but not in a bad way and it really works well with Tech’s vocals. Wiz however, brings down the cut. If this was a hazy, more smoker oriented cut I’d say go for it, it’s the only time I ever like Wiz, but considering the charisma of Bobby Ray and Tech N9ne, Wiz just doesn’t jive well; It is still good despite him though. While this might not be the greatest single, I am sure Tech is saving the choice cuts for the album, this is definitely shaping up to be "Something Else".
