It’s All Good: American Soldier Stands Up Against Anti-Muslim Comments Posted by Max Pete on 09/11/13 | Filed under Opinion, Its All Good

These days, all you see and hear on the news is about which country is on the brink of war, the economic crisis and other information that drives fear into your everyday life. I’m tired of hearing nothing but bad news, that’s why I decided to write about positive and inspiring stories that are overlooked by the mainstream media in "It's All Good".

With today being the 12 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that changed American lives forever, I thought it would be good to spotlight a story about an American soldier standing up against someone who he believed to be making anti-Muslim comments.

“What Would You Do?” is a hidden camera series on ABC that puts people into situations where they can accept the injustice or stand up for what they believe is right. You can see in this video that the solider did not waste a second to stand up against a young man who was harassing a Muslim cashier, and was refusing to be served by him because “he’s a Muslim.”

The uniformed soldier defended the right for freedom of religion, and said, "We live in America, he can have whatever religion he wants."

The solider later went on to say, “That's the reason I wear the uniform -- so anyone can live free in this country."

After the producer arrived on the scene and explained to the soldier that the heckler and the cashier were both actors, and that he was on this show, the soldier was quick to down play his heroic response by saying, “If you're an American, you're an American. Period.”

Even though there is still a lot of injustice in the world and intolerance of other people’s beliefs, it is good to see people standing up for others.
