Samsung is known for it’s smartphones and televisions, but come October the Korean-based tech giant will be entering a different market with their Samsung Galaxy Gear. A first-generation prototype, the feature-rich timepiece hosts an interactive bezel, featuring a speaker and a pair of microphones for recording and video playback, and a built-in dialer, which allows you to communicate with callers via the smartphone app through your Bluetooth-connected Galaxy device.

Designed for consumers with an active lifestyle, the Samsung Galaxy Gear also has a built-in 1.9-megapixel camera, capable of capturing stills and 10-second video clips with sound on the go. According to reps for the brand, athletes are the targeted demographic, as apps like RunKeeper and MyFitnessPal, are bundled with a pedometer, among other attractive technological aspects. And if you happen to misplace your Galaxy Gear no worries, because the watch can be used to find a lost phone or tablet with the Find My Device feature, that beeps and vibrates until you pinpoint its location.

Priced at $299, the Galaxy Gear will be made available in a rainbow of sporty colors such as Lime Green, Wild Orange, Black and more; and is only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the new Note 10.1 phones, but will likely operate with older handsets once that device gets an Android 4.3 update.
