This Week in Hip-Hop Sales: Well I’ll Be Damned, Lil Wayne is #1

Lil Wayne I Am Not a Human Being EP Cover
No, no, you're mistaken. It wasn't me who wrote, "You know what doesn't sell well? Albums that are essentially 'Rebirth' leftovers promoted by an artist whose in jail," in last week's sales report. You're thinking of someone else. Ok, fine. Good lord was I wrong. This week Weezy's "I Am Not a Human Being" came out of nowhere to take the number one spot, selling more copies this week (125,000) than it had in the previous two weeks combined Lesson learned; people will buy anything from Wayne, even if it's crap. Which means if "Carter IV" is even halfway decent, it might sell a million first week.

Top Digital Urban Song Sales (w/ units sold)

2. (4th overall) Bruno Mars - Just the Way You Are (164,576)

4 (7th overall). Flo-Rida ft. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me (118,767)
5 (8th overall). Usher ft. Pitbull - Club Got Us Fallin' in Love (109,064)
6 (8th overall). Trey Songz f. Nicki Minaj - Bottom's Up (107,073)
7 (10th overall). Taio Cruz - Dynamite (105,025)
8 (12th overall). Cee-Lo Green - Fuck You (89,258)
9 (12th overall). Eminem ft. Rihanna - Love the Way You Lie (72,561)
10 (22nd overall). Kanye West ft. Pusha T - Runaway (56,163)

The Refined Take:

1) Well at least I was right about one thing last week: Waka Flocka's "Flockaveli" album proved it had no staying power, plummeting from the top ten and landing at the number 21 slot, selling a meager 18,000 copies last week. Thank god that's over - now we can all move on with our lives.

2) Also taking a major hit this week was Kanye's "Runaway", which dropped like a stone from the number four overall slot to number 22. What happened? I thought that record was just picking up steam. Did he slap a famous white girl and I somehow missed it?

3) No, it couldn't be. I don't believe. Well holy shit then, I guess Nelly does have the number one urban record in the country last year. Just when it seemed like his career as a major artist was over (it's been five years since his last top ten hit) the numero uno St. Lunatic is back on top. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

4) I guarantee you the statistician who compiled this week's charts did a double take when they saw that a song called "Gonorrhea" was at the number 63 slot. "No, that couldn't be the correct title. There must be a mistake." Oh, there's no mistake my friend.

5) This week's Mr. Irrelevant Award, given to the song that sits at the absolute bottom of the charts (the number 200 spot), goes to..Jason Derulo's "In My Head", which America is finally forgetting about. Thank god - if I could get blasted with one of those Men in Black joints and never hear it again, I would.

Someone missed that story when it came out a couple days ago. It's "just" child support so I doubt he'll end up doing time. And if his lawyers are even halfway decent they should be able to stretch the process out well past MM4's release date. I wouldn't worry.

Note: I'm not even remotely a lawyer, so if he gets sentenced to a six month bid next week, don't get mad at me.

C'mon Nathan, I am not surprised if anything with Lil Wayne in it...I even wrote a freestyle before called "BrainLess" which says, "albums DON'T SELL if they WAYNELESS." Case closed...It's weezy baby, what can I say, shit just happens, not saying Lil Wayne is man or anything, but he has that POWER.
