Mediocore? I thought it was pretty banging personally. People just need to get it through their heads. Kanye is never going back to College Dropout. If you expect the album to be that, just stop listening. That's the thing that makes people miss great songs and albums. Take Electric Circus. That shit bangs crazy and Common spits pure flame. But niggas (including myself at the time) slept on it because it was out of our comfort zone of Resurrection/ Like Water for Chocolate Common. Besides, knowing how Ye works, this song probably isn't even complete all the way yet. You know dude will be working on the record til the last minute as always. |

Some corrections: Devil in a -New- Dress, and the UserShare links to a direct download of a different song. I don't think this record is complete. Doesn't sound it. |

I love SmokinAces' comparison to Common's album Electric circus. It was a great album, but people didn't support it because it wasn't the common they were used to. I constantly hear people say how much they want college dropout kanye back, but we all know that is pretty much behind him. Concerning the record, I personally thought it was pretty good. The weakest part for me was the hook, which actually wasn't too bad considering kanye sang w/o auto-tune. I liked everything else. |

First, sorry about that, the UserShare link is fixed. Second, it's a decent record, and the reason I'm not a fan has nothing to do with trying to peg Kanye into a box or wanting him to make College Dropout again. It's because Kanye Sounds Terrible Singing. How can you overlook that? He sounds terrible...singing...and he sings throughout the entire song. It's not a small deal. If we're going to play the analogy game with Common, I would compare this to Jordan leaving basketball for baseball. Jordan was the greatest basketball player ever, but only a mediocre baseball player at best. Kanye is one of the best producers and rappers ever, but a mediocre singer at best. So I'm not supposed to wish Jordan was playing basketball instead of dicking around on the baseball diamond? (So to speak) |

Melody and instrumentation's amazing and more than makes up for his terrible voice. I think Kanye pulls it off even though he can't sing at all, granted it would be an even better song with a real singer on the hook. |

*Clap* *Clap* Wow Matza complete kudos, I knew there was another Ichabod Crane reference somewhere out there, completely forgot about Dumb it Down (to look there that is). Personally, I really like the song for the fact that Kanye Can't sing, because it feels naked and that makes it feel a little more genuine, especially for Hip-Hop. For Example, he's an a-hole he know he needs to work on that; he can't sing either he would need to work on that as well (he'll never get to Whitney level but... I digress) it just makes sense when you think about it like that. Kanye exploiting all of his weaknesses. |
