Alex Wiley & Action Bronson’s “Icky Woods’ (Almost) Made Me Cry (Listen & Download)

Even if they won't admit it, every guy has his "first time sports made me cry" story - it's a rite of passage for men. I grew up in Boston, so you'd assume my first sports tears came from the Red Sox, but no, in fact it was Super Bowl XXIII that did it. The year was 1989, and even though the Patriots were my favorite team, Icky Woods was easily my favorite player. There was just something about his style, his "swag" as the kids would say, that a young Nathan S. fucking loved. Come on, the Icky Shuffle was classic.

So my dad let me stay up late to watch the Super Bowl to root for my adopted team, and when they Icky and the Bengals eventually lost to the powerhouse 49ers, I won't front, I cried like Nancy Kerrigan. It wasn't so much the loss itself, it was the realization that just because I really, really wanted something, the world was under no obligation to give it to me.

ANYWAY...............

Alex Wiley and Action Bronson have a new rap song out, it's mentions "Icky Woods". I probably would have posted just so I could tell that story, but it just so happens that the music's pretty goddamn dope too. So, you know, bonus points.

Word to Closed Sessions, looks like I may have to really pay attention when Alex Wiley's Club Wiley tape drops June 4. In the meantime, there will always and forever only be one Icky Woods. Now excuse me while I go rewatch the Super Bowl and try not to cry thug tears.

Enjoy....
