Meet John NewmanPosted by Lucas G. on 01/14/14 | Filed under Non Hip-Hop, Meet, John Newman |

Well, topping Eryn Allen Kanye is going to be damn near impossible right? Of all the "Meet..." articles I have done, that one was easily the most popular; I haven't seen a response like that in...ever. Part of me just wants to shut it down now and end on a grand slam, but that just wouldn't work. There is way too much music out there that needs to be heard to simply stop sharing it. Besides on the low low, these are my favortie article to write because I LOVE sharing music. I would be doing this without RefinedHype, but since I have the platform, I want to use it real proper like. So, I am hoping to follow up last week with another home run. Stepping up to the plate is British R&B/pop crooner, John Newman.
This song has been out for a minute, but it stays in heavy rotation, and now that his album Tribute hit the U.S. it felt like a good time to share it since he is poised to blow. He really should be in the running for the next to blow award; this song is already in a few TV spots here and there. I love his style. We have plenty of (new) vintage R&B females (like Eryn or Aaradhna) but are lacking some strong male singers in that department; John fills that void big time. I guess what stands out to me is how he blends a vintage soul style with a new-age, almost electronic sound. You heard it on "Love Me Again" and it is tangible on "Losing Sleep" (below), another potent effort.
His sound is radio-ready and crazy intoxicating, but it isn't really your typical pop stuff; there are a variety of sounds and a slight edge to it that screams mainstream and underground appeal; very potent. It is impossible not to be moved by this stuff--I have gotten the chills more than few times--and I really think he is primed to make a giant impact this year. Tribute is available via iTunes now. Newman!
