6 Of The Best Sneakers Worn During All-Star Weekend

Posted by Ru Porter on 02/18/13 | Filed under Style, Sneakers
Aside from the watching some of the best players in the NBA ball for charity and dunk on their opponents in the process, one of the reasons I enjoy All-Star Weekend is because of the special edition sneaker releases and bring backs that may have been forgotten over the years. Whether they’re worn at the All-Star Game or the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, sneaker heads can always expect some heat on the court. That said check out 6 of the best shoes worn by athletes during the 62nd annual All-Star Weekend Festivities.

1) Worn by James on All-Star Sunday, Nike’s Lebron X “Area 72” sneakers are inspired by a fictional planet called “NSP-LJ6”. This All-Star colorway features a laser purple base with strata grey and total crimson accents. An "earthquake" print midsole and graphic upper represents the planet's volatile, volcanic surface. The interplanetary release is available for $200 at select Nike retailers.

2) Despite his questionable fashion sense, Russell Westbrook rocked some Air Jordan V “Tokyo 23” kicks on his feet as he coached the Eastern Conference in the Sprint Celebrity All-Star Game. Released in 2011, these limited AJ5s sports a bright yellow nubuck upper with grey accents and icy outsole. The exclusive Japanese edition is now sold out, so be prepared to pay top dollar if you manage to find a pair.

3) Though Anthony Davis has his own version of Air Max Hyperposites PE’s in a New Orleans Hornets "Home" colorway, the 2012 #1 draft pick was spotted in a pair of Nike Barkley Posite Max "Area 72" at the 2013 Rising Stars Challenge. Featuring an all-black foamposite look, the “Ray Guns” are inspired by a fictional Nike character, using the 3M silhouette, detailed graphics and red and purple accents over a glow-in-the-dark midsole shown throughout. You can get yours while supplies last for $250 and up in stores or online.

4) Worn as a starter in the big game, the "All-Star Edition" colorway of Dwight Howard's new Adidas D Howard Light shoe features a bright red camo upper with hints of red orange, a metallic gold tongue and silver piping on the 3-Stripes and heel. A white dual-density midsole, and red rubber outsole completes the look. Not bad for $125, right?

5) Originally on display at his All-Star party in Houston, Eastern Conference Li-Ning representative, Dwyane Wade, wore the purple colorway of the Chinese brand, Way Of Wade at the All-Star Game. Featuring black laces, the all-purple upper boasts an all-over stingray pattern. Stay tuned for pricing.

6) Similar to other “Area 72” styles, the Nike AirMax Hyperposite “All-Star” Edition worn by Chris Bosh, features a mostly grey outerplanet theme on the upper with yellow and citrus crackled graphics. Prices range from $230 and up on EBay.
