This Week in Hype: The “Oxymoron” Leak, Burger King Moments With Kato & More Posted by Nathan S. on 02/21/14 | Filed under Downloads, This Week in Hype, Podcasts, SMKA, Funk Volume

Hey, we all made it another week without dying. What more reason to celebrate could we possibly need? Let's celebrate the only way a rap nerd can celebrate - with a brand new "This Week in Hype" podcast.

This week, I start by breaking down the leak of ScHooboy Q's "Oxymoron" and end up ranting leaks in general - especially artists and labels who are unprepared to deal with them. Then I bring in Funk Volume and SMKA producer Kato to talk about getting placements, repping Asian Americans in hip-hop and Burger King moments.

Discussed This Week:

* Lower back pain - who has some remedies?
* As always, shout out to RefinedHype Nation member Tino for that dope theme song.
* If you're a producer, send your instrumentals to nathan@refinedhypecom (make sure the beats are downloadable so I can actually use them). You can also use that email to answer this week's trivia question and win some random shit from my house. Speaking of which, shout out to last week's winner, Dwight.
* ScHoolboy Q's "Oxymoron" album leaked, I defend our stream of the album and then talk about and how seemingly unprepared artists and labels are to deal with the inevitable.
* I bring on Kato, best known for his work with Jarren Benton/SMKA/Funk Volume, to talk about the grind of tour life, the "Burger King moments" that leak to Rittz getting on his remix, how be gets placements, the responsibility he feels to rep for Asian-Americans in hip-hop and much more.
* Kato is good people. You should follow him here, and bang the bejeezus out of his new "Kato's Revenge" tape.
* Today's closing track, ScHoolboy Q's new "Gangsta".
