This Week in Hype: Danny Brown, Self-Destruction & Digital Music Money

Posted by Nathan S. on 02/14/14 | Filed under Downloads, This Week in Hype, Podcasts

Could it really be? Has another week gone by? Well then, I think there's only one choice. We should celebrate by dropping two racks at the strip club pop some bottles listening to yet another "This Week in Hype" podcast.

Don't worry, I'm not extending "College Dropout" week into the podcast. Instead, this week I talk about Danny Brown's substance abuse, artists who get trapped in their own self-destruction, and bring on Abe Batshon of Beat Stars to discuss the past, present and future of digital music.

Discussed This Week:

* As always, shout out to RefinedHype Nation member Tino for that dope theme song.
* If you're a producer, send your instrumentals to nathan@refinedhypecom. You can also use that email to answer this week's trivia question and win some random shit from my house. Speaking of which, shout out to last week's winner, Touissant
* I go in-depth on my recent Danny Brown article. How responsible are fans and the media for trapping artists in their own drug abuse?
* I bring on BeatStars founder Abe Batshon to talk about working at the dawn of the digital music era, when rappers made more money off ringtones than albums, whether Macklemore is really indie and, of course, how BeatStars is creating a new revenue channel for artists.
* Beat Stars has a lot of new dope stuff happening. I highly suggest you check it out now, and follow Abe here
* Today's closing track, Danny Brown's "Die Like a Rockstar"

If you subscribe to "This Week in Hype" on iTunes I'll come over to your house and make you some delicious fucking waffles. Seriously*.
