This Week in Hype: Jermaine Dupri, the Business of Production With J. Hatch & More

Posted by Nathan S. on 02/07/14 | Filed under Downloads, This Week in Hype, Podcasts

I usually like to get these podcasts to you in the morning, but today I had some serious business to attend to a lot of Rosa Acosta stretching videos to watch, so afternoon it is. Good thing the "This Week in Hype" podcast is so timeless.

This week, I talk about that one time Jermaine Dupri stole my article about heroin...then kinda sorta rant about the value of art and writing in the internet age. Plus, I bring on iStandard co-CEO J. Hatch to go in-depth on how he helped navigate a beat from listening session to a placement on 50 Cent's upcoming album.

Discussed This Week:

* As always, shout out to RefinedHype Nation member Tino for that dope theme song.
* Word to @EscapadeMusic for providing some of the instrumentals used in this podcast. If you're a producer, send your instrumentals to nathan@refinedhypecom. You can also use that email to answer this week's trivia question and win some random shit from my house. So...your move people.
* I start out talking about that one time I talked to Jermaine Dupri, but then I kind of just sort of lose my mind and end up ranting about how people expect to get unlimited free awesome shit forever on the internet. So, yeah, that happened.
* Through his work as one of the heads of iStandard, J. Hatch has helped literally thousands of producers advance their careers, and placed production on some major projects. We talk some real details about how a producer can go from making beats in their basement to working with hip-hop heavyweights.
* Word to J. Hatch for coming on. You should follow him here, and learn much more about iStandard here.
* Today's closing track, Allen Stone's "Unaware".

If you subscribe to "This Week in Hype" on iTunes I'll come over to your house and make you some delicious fucking waffles. Seriously*.

* Not seriously.
