Personally, as a film school student and writer, I found Kanye's "Runaway" to be nothing more than the man masturbating to himself on screen for 35 minutes. The visuals are solid but the story (so to speak) is garbage. Kanye expects us to find symbolism where there is none. Despite the impression Kanye likes to give, the film is paper-thing. I also couldn't get past Kanye's horrid performance. He makes Rob Schneider look like Daniel Day Lewis. I could be paralyzed from the neck down and deliver some of these lines with a bit more emotion. (If you don't believe me, turn your attention to Kanye's performance at 4:33) As for the music: some of the beats on this were absolutely nuts. Unfortunately, Kanye insists on singing on every chorus and drags the quality of each track down. I'm really hoping these aren't the final versions. That Kid Cudi track in particular sounds atrocious. Also, what's the deal with half of Kanye's album being G.O.O.D. Friday tracks? Why should I pay $12 for an album with 11 songs on it and 5 that were previously released for free? (Not to mention 3 others leaked) Kanye has really disappointed me with this one. Sorry about the rant. |

agree with Jaffe...I was also pretty disappointed with the tracklist i saw on itunes. Most of the tracks are already released, if not will be released in the next 3-4weeks...Kinda dont feel like buying the album now...lol... But the beats were just ridiculous! My favorite was the last song he used for closing. That was a beast! & yea...please Mr. West...you got money...hire some singers!! lol...so no answer to my question?...No significance to the kid with the KKK hat? |

@undadog Kanye said that was his attempt to "take symbols back". @E. Jaffe Watch the Q&A with MTV. Kanye pretty much says most of the stuff was just ideas he had but didn't know how to explain, lol. He just wanted a way to show off different songs that otherwise could never have a music video. The real magic man here is Hype Williams. Goddamn those visuals were amazing. As far as the tracklist goes.. 3 G.O.O.D. Friday tracks, 2 singles, and Lost in the World leaked in full, though unfinished. Hope he gets Chain Heavy and Mama's Boyfriend on there.. |

Throwing in my two cents quickly. I actually had the chance to hear Kanye talk about the movie and he said: It was first and foremost a chance to do a series of short music videos for songs that he didn't think would ever get made as separate music videos. So is he the next Scorcese? Of course not, and as a movie this has all sorts of problems. But no one in hip-hop has ever done something like this, ever, and I'm choosing to be impressed. This is bad movie for a director, and an incredible movie for a rapper. It's all in how you choose to approach it. Also, Kanye said that he when he made the movie he was trying to think like a five year old and be naive politically and socially. So the 5 year old Kanye would think those guys in the red hoods looked bad ass, not that they're symbols of racism. That doesn't really make sense, but that's what he said. Oh, and the final, new version of All the Lights will have nine people on it, including Elton John. This album's either going to be a masterpiece or a complete bomb. There can be no in between. |

This video ended up in between transformers: revenge of the fallen and that book catcher in the eye.....a lot of special effects and zero meaning to it. sorry, but this is not art, although I appreciate Kanye's sense of style. Art cannot be separated from meaning and message, otherwise it becomes pornography. and i'm actually using the REAL definition of pornography here. |

I agree with what nathan said, i feel like if this was released as tracks and he put them out one by one it would of gone 2 ways, R.Kelly Trapped in The Closet which lets be honest by part 15 we were waiting for it to be over OR it would of gone like every other rapper whose music video says "To be continued..." at the end and never has a follow up. In a way Kanye was slick, you watched it, and thats what he intended. |
