Let Your Hate Out: Macklemore Talks Race & More With Peter Rosenberg

We've been here before. I don't feel particularly comfortable playing the Macklemore defender role. On the whole I'm a fan, but I'm certainly not a fan, and I also certainly also think there are some legitimate criticisms to be lobbed his way. But this idea that he's literally the worst thing to happen to hip-hop since Vanilla Ice, an idea I see thrown around constantly, feels so overblown.

Believe me, I'd rather take a kick in the nuts than listen to "Thrift Shop" again, but he's also bringing Chance the Rapper, Talib Kweli and Big K.R.I.T. on tour with him. That alone may not earn your respect, but it should at least earn your not-complete-and-total-hatred. But instead of once again quasi-arguing on his semi-behalf, as he proves with Peter Rosenberg, the man is more than capable of speaking about race, class, underground cred and more all by himself.

I'm not going to promise this is the last Macklemore "debate" you'll see on RefinedHype, like it or not he'll be around for too long for a promise like that, but barring any groundbreaking new developments, it will at least be the last time for a long time.

So if you've got anything left to say, check out the interview below, let's get it all out in the the open, and then move on to the really important things in life.
