Finally, Proof Ludacris Can Still Rap: “Raised in the South” ft. Young Jeezy Posted by Nathan S. on 04/19/13 | Filed under Young Jeezy, Ludacris

Listen, I don't want to write something like "It's Official, Ludacris Has Fallen Off". Luda's provided me with more minutes of hip-hop dopeness than almost anyone else over the last decade, and I'd love nothing more than for that dopeness to continue. But at this point I don't think there's any question that he's lost a step, mostly because I don't think he cares as much as he once did. (That "Fast & Furious" money has a way of making a rapper less willing to spend all night in the studio nailing a verse.)

At first his new cut 'Raised in the South" seemed to be more shrug-worthy rap from Luda. Listening to that first verse is like watching Jordan on the Wizards - still a force, still a legend, but no longer striking fear into his opponents hearts. AND THEN THE SECOND VERSE HIT! Huh, well then. There's that vintage Luda flow I've been waiting hear. It may not as good as his best shit, but this is the best indication I can remember hearing lately that dude still has that extra gear. Good news.

We'll deal with the "Has Young Jeezy fallen off?" question another time, for now just enjoy "Raised in the South". Maybe Luda's upcoming "I Don’t Give A Fuck" mixtape will be proof that he's back on the war path. We'll just have to wait and see...
