Bangin That Jesus Music: Lecrae’s “Church Clothes” Mixtape (Listen & Download) Posted by Nathan S. on 05/11/12 | Filed under Downloads, Mixtapes, Lecrae

The (hip-hop) lord works in mysterious ways. I first came across Lecrae in a Statik Selektah video. Inspired by the man's obvious rhymes skills I turned to ye olde Google and quickly learned two things: One, he's a Christian rapper and two, he makes some dope music. Christian or not, "Jesus Music" bangs.

And then just a couple weeks later I got into a random conversation with a dude in my building and I asked him what music he listened to. "Hip-hop, but I'm Christian so I only really listen to Christian music," he said in that half-apologetic way of people used to mocked for their musical tastes. "You know Lacreae?" I asked. "I've only watched a couple videos but he's dope. "Word?" he responded. "Lecrae's the man."

And that's when I learned that Lecrae's essentially the Jay-Z of Christian hip-hop, the man that community that everyone seems to acknowledge is making the biggest moves, and one of the few people they can point non-Christians to and trust they won't be embarrassed.

So while I've got no religious affiliation, I'm always down to hear new hip-hop, and try to learn some lessons from anyone succeeding in their field. So in that spirit I'll be spending a portion of my weekend bumping Lecrae's new "Church Clothes" mixtape. Production comes from Boi-ida, 9th Wonder and more, with a notable feature from the recently converted Malice.
