Breaking Down Jay-Z’s “Maybach Music 2, the Lost Verse” (Listen & Download)

Not that Jay-Z needed further proof, but you know you're major when people track down your throwaway verses like Indian Jones searching for the Holy Grail. Well, just call me Indy. While the so-called "lost verse" from Hova and Rick Ross' "Maybach Music" has been floating around for a week, until today it was more tagged up than a NYC subway train. Now that we have the tagless, high-quality version in our greedy hands, I thought it'd be worth diving in for a moment.

Listening to both version it's clear that, for whatever reason, Jay's got a thing for racially-centered Maybach metaphors:

Original verse: "Black Maybach, white seats, black pipin, remind me of Paul McCartney and Mike fightin (the girl is mine). Life's a bitch, so the whole world is mine."
Lost verse: "White guts, black rims, I call that bitch affirmative action. Oreo, the Obama, I'm so strong they can't see me Osama."

The other notable difference between the two is, of course, the kind-of, quasi-Rick Ross diss. Obviously it would have been bad form for Jay to disparage Mr. Ross on his own track, but the second time around he's got no problem asserting who was really whipping Maybach's first: "I guess on the original Maybach, I was just too official they ain't call Jay back / No diss to Ricky this his song, but everybody know this the shit I been on." in other words, that's one of those "no offense' situations, as in you can openly insult someone and they're not allowed to get made as long as you say "no offense but" (ex. "No offense, but your sister's a whore).

What's the larger point here? Honestly, there really is no larger point, other than that Jay's got the game so completely on lock hip-hop nation feels compelled to decipher everything he does like the DaVinci Code. So which verse do you like better? (For the record, the upcoming Hova x Ross track that will appear on Ross' "Teflon Don" album isn't "Maybach Music 3" as previously reported.)
