J. Cole & 9th Wonder Reveal “The Plan” (Listen & Download)

Surprise, surprise, it's another ill J. Cole track. It wasn't that long ago that the future of Roc Nation unleashed unanimously agreed upon dopeness like "Villematic", "The One", and "It Won't Be Long", everyone's favorite pick for the next Nas is back with his new record, "The Plan". In typical internets fashion we first heard a snippet of "The Plan" as part of a promotion for video game "NBA Elite 11", and then, somehow, someway, the finalized CDQ version appeared. Looks like "NBA Elite" is leakier than the Warriors' defense. Ah that felt good, it'd been too long since I got to make a b-ball reference.

Anyway, the music. With a beat that eclectically sampled (are those live drums?) it could only be the work of Cole's fellow North Carolinian 9th Wonder, and while the production's nothing to look over, ultimately it's the lyricism that drives this one. "And one, where I'm goin you can't come / I was schoolin your father boy, that makes you my grandson.' Damn.

On the other hand, not to get all "No F**king Sense" on you, but does anyone get the "Had me feelin like Master Splinter" reference? I grew up on the Ninja Turtles, Splinter was the man (ok, rat). He was the most powerful figure on that show, even if he did live in the sewer. Perhaps it's a subtle "underground" reference? Whatever, I spend way too much time thinking about these things.

Randy Mercer	Hmm I think the reference was due to the fact that Master Splinter (for those not in the know Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)is always sitting down or is always on the sidelines.

BEWBTUBE	I agree with Randy. Splinter was the best but he always played a minor role when the shit went down.

bitcloud7	I think the splinter reference is a nod to the fact Splinter (as stated) was the best, but he was underrated and got very little shine (Comics, Cartoons, Movies, Toys) despite that. Lets face it none of us put Master Splinter on the Christmas list. lol

Nathan S.	I hear y'all. Still, you'd think you'd want to be Master Splinter - he was the one with the power, calling the shots. Donatello, now there's a dude who always got overlooked, probably because his weapon (the bo) was the weakest. By the way, I love the fact that we're engaged in an extended hip-hop/teenage mutant ninja turtles conversation. I fucking love this site.
