After “SNL”, is Drake Funny Or Am I On Crazy Pills?Posted by Nathan S. on 01/20/14 | Filed under Top Stories, Humor, Debates, Drake |

There was a time around middle school when I watched "Saturday Night Live" religiously. Not only was it "cool" to stay up until 1 in the morning, I had fantasies about one day writing for "SNL". But like most of the world, these days I don't actually watch "Saturday Night Live" live - that's why sweet baby jesus invented the internet. So I didn't get around to checking some of Drake's work on "SNL" until this morning and...huh....shit's kind of actually funny.
I really shouldn't have been surprised. After all, Drizzy's an actor by trade and has already done at least one genuinely amusing/funny video, "HYRF",which he semi-kinda-re-created in his opening monologue:
Am I on crazy pills, or was that kind of actually pretty funny?
It feels like a similar experience to when I first watched "Dick in a Box" - maybe not coincidentally also on "SNL" - and had to have the "Am I really just straight up enjoying Justin Timberlake now?" conversation with myself. It turns out that yes, yes I actually do just straight up think JT is funny. And I'd be shocked if Aubry wasn't consciously following the JT blueprint; frankly it's shocking that Drake hasn't already done more movie and TV appearances. It's has to only be a matter of time before that man is doing a romantic comedy with Jennifer Lawrence featuring a soundtrack of his songs. So basically a Drake haters worst fucking nightmare.
But....am I on crazy pills, or is this actually pretty funny?
But yeah, ok, so Drake can play rappers. Big fucking stretch, and that last sketch was carried by a lot of other people - personally I need more of that Eminem impression soon. By contrast, while the skit overall didn't work as well, Drake played more of a straight man on the "Mornin' Miami" skit pretty well:
I'm nowhere near putting Drake in the top of my "Funniest Rapper" list, but after "SNL" it feels like he at least needs to be in the conversation. Unless, if course, it turns out that I'm completely on crazy pills. As always, I'll rely on RefinedHype Nation to keep me on the right path. Have at it people...
