Just when you think Kanye can’t get any controversial.... Seriously, he makes us look like a pair of geniuses for or Kanye Or Crazy Person. You have probably already seen all the tweets and controversy surrounding Kanye’s latest outburst, but for those late to the game (or Twitterless) allow me to summarize. 

Kanye’s interview with BBC’s Zane Lowe has been a hot topic of the week thanks to some epic quotes from Mr. West (“I AM THE BIGGEST ROCKSTAR ON THE PLANET”). Sure, he is a little out there but my impression, of the interview was largely positive. Kanye shows a ton of passion, ambition, and heart in the interview, which I whole-heartedly respect. He reminds me of a great athlete. No matter how well they play or how many games they won, athletes like Peyton Manning or Michael Jordan were never satisfied; there was always more work to be done in their minds.

Kanye seems to be the same way. Sure he is over the top, and doesn’t always say or do the "right thing", but I respect his passion and his ambition. What gets him into trouble is also what makes him one of the best emcees ever.  It is a shame too, because now, people who aren’t hip-hop fans look at me crazy when I say Kanye is the best of our generation because all they know of him are the headlines. 

Yesterday, Jimmy Kimmel spoofed the interview in a skit where he had children reenact bits and pieces of the interview. While it seems (and is) relatively harmless, Kanye didn’t see it that way and took to social media to vent. Below is the spoof as well as a few of the many tweets from an angry Yeezy.

 

 

Rather than bore you with more analysis - there's already 4 million thinkpieces out there and you probably don't want to think because its is Friday afternoon and who the hell wants to use their brain at this point—we thought it might be fun to give you a first hand look at what goes on behind the scenes of Refinedhype; Nathan and I Gchatting until the cows go home. Yup, that’s out big secret, no rap blog Illuminati headquarters, (or so you think) just two dudes talking about hip-hop on different sides if the country trying to figure out article ideas. So without further adeu, here's the first )and possibly last if it turns out this was a terrible idea) installment of Gchat snapshots. I haven't changed a word, this is verbatim from our Gchat conversation: 

Lucas Garrison:
jesus Kanye still isn’t done
just had a few more ranting tweets

Nathan Slavik:
Yeah....I think we actually have to post. Let's push Weekend Rewind for a minute
How should we tackle this?

Lucas Garrison:
not exactly sure
the thing that sucks is his whole rant really discredits the interview
where he says alot of truth

Nathan Slavik:
yeah, I agree. Was just having this convo on Twitter. The hard thing about Kanye is that he's so complicated. There are people who want to dismiss him as a crazy joke, they're wrong. There are people who want to support him entirely as a misunderstood genius, they're wrong too.
Kanye's balls crazy AND speaks a lot of truth
He IS a genius AND ridiculously narcisstic
He's has a paranoid persection complex AND is legitimately being persecuted. There's insane amounts of racism working against him, but not every criticism of him is rooted in racism

Lucas Garrison:
I thought the interview was cool from the standpoint that, like great athletes, he is never satisfied but all of his talent, passion and ambition is overshadowed by his giant ego
which is also what makes him great

Nathan Slavik:
Exactly, without that ego he probably couldn't do the incredible stuff he does
It's a whole package. You can't get reasonable Kanye and makes unbelievable music Kanye

Can't take the comparison too far, but reminds me of watching Michael Vick in his prime.
One play he'd duck seven defenders and pull off one of the most breathtaking plays in football history
The next play he'd scramble backwards 17 yards, then throw up a desperation toss across his body that gets intercepted
It was ONE FUCK YES!!! to OH FUCK NO!!! on a play by play basis with him
But you couldn't have one without the other. Try to make him a normal pocket passer, and you might eliminate all the terrible mistakes, but you also take away what made him so incredible in the first place

Lucas Garrison:
and he certainly had the off the field stuff which muddied the waters

Nathan Slavik:
Yeah, exactly. You can't take that analogy too far in terms of their larger career because Vick's never won a championship and Kanye's got multiple classics, but in terms of the experience of watching them, of being their fan, I think it might not be far off

Lucas Garrison:
you gonna write that one too haha

Nathan Slavik:
