What Could Have Been: Unreleased Freddie Gibbs “It’s All Cognac” Revealed (Listen & Download)

This is going to shock absolutely no one, but before Freddie Gibbs became one of the most heralded "new" rappers he was signed to Interscope and working on a debut album, only the label wasn't happy with Gibbs refusal to auto-tune his gangsterism, so he was unceremoniously cut. In the following years Gangster Gibbs has slowly but surely released the music he recorded during his Interscope days on mixtapes, including "Str8 Killa No Filla", but today the good folks at TSS unearthed one last hidden gem, the celebratory "It's All Cognac".

Originally recorded in 2006 and produced by Bink!, a.k.a. the dude who did the most "Kanye" sounding beat on "MBDTW", "It's All Cognac" rides along on a horn infused beat that Gibbs laces with his usual assortment of airtight lines. While it's easy to wax nostalgic about what the album could have sounded like, the truth is it all worked out for the best. If, and that's "if", Gibbs ever goes back to a major he'll be able to command some serious respect after having proven himself independently.

Break out that battle of cognac, it's time to get classy people.
