Fails: An Absurdly Detailed Analysis of That Time Kanye West Walked Into a Sign

Posted by Nathan S. on 05/13/13 | Filed under Humor, Kanye West, Fails, Absurdly Detailed Investigations

Listen, I know this first came out on Friday, which in internet terms is older than Jay-Z, and I briefly mentioned this in the most recent "Fails of the Week". But even three days later I'm still laughing at Kanye walking into a sign, so I had to make it its own entry.

Here's what I (still) love about this video:

1) We don't actually see Kanye walk into the sign. It's kind of like how hearing a song on the radio with "fuck" bleeped out is weirdly funnier than hearing the un-censored version?

2) Speaking of which, the paparazzi's initial reaction is, and I quote, "Oh f**k, Kanye, you ok?" Because really, what do you say when you just watched an incredibly famous person walk into a sign?

3) Kanye's reaction is essentially the exact same reaction my daughter has when she trips while running on the playground. In her head she thinks she's the fastest, most incredible runner of all-time. Then she trips and is forced to confront the fact that she's still just a three-year-old kid who falls down sometimes, and starts crying with this blend of embarrassment and anger. Replace the crying with swearing and that's pretty much exactly what Ye does. It must be hard to think you're an avant garde art genius, then be forced to confront the fact that you're the kind of normal human being who does dumb shit like walk into a sign. (Side note: we all agree that Jay-Z would never walk into a sign, right?)

Now let's talk about the second video for a moment, shall we?

1) I want you to carefully watch the way Ye runs at the photographer; that might be one of the most awkward runs I've ever seen. He's running with his knees bizarrely high, and his hands at his side. It's like he doesn't know whether he wants to hug or hit the photographer, and in the process ends up doing this Special Olympics 100 meter dash move.

2) Can we please find out the identity of this mystery chollo cameraman? "I just got here homie" is an instant quotable, and you've got to love the way he says, "If you want me to leave I'll leave" WHILE continuing to follow Kanye.

3) See, this is the kind of thing that you only notice after watching this video for three days straight. Check out the very end of the first video. See that random dude in sunglasses sitting down at the table by the door? Yep, that's the same guy yelling, "Leave the man alone man!" In the span of a couple minutes he's gone from another customer to a guy who's decided to "help" Kanye. I guaran-fucking-tee you in his head he's thinking, "I'm going to yell at this photographer too, Kanye's going to recognize what an awesome person I am, and fly me to France in his private jet."

Memes they come, and memes they go, but this shit right here? Much like a Kanye album, I've now watched it repeatedly, and I feel like I'm just beginning to uncover the depths of its brilliance. Let me know what other gems I missed.

Enjoy...
