This is turning out to be a pretty good summer for those super greedy music fans. Today we got summers worth of music in one day and two days ago, Jay-Z announced he will drop a mixtape on the 4th of July, just a week after Wale’s album, The Gifted, drops…. take a breath. Apparently Drake not only wants to throw his hat in the ring, but he wants to claim the summer as his. In his latest spread in GQ which hits newsstands on the 25th, Drizzy said, “I ain't gonna lie: I want to be the one you listen to this summer.”

Hmmmmm, does that mean the Toronto mega-star has some big plans for Nothing Was the Same? According to him, the album is "Almost finished," so it might come sooner than we think. Obviously, "Started From The Bottom" is the lead single, but his latest cut, “On My Way” ft. James Fauntleroy, is gaining some serious steam and we're waiting to hear if it'll end up having a home on Nothing Was The Same.



What, did this cut - which to the casual Drake listener (raises hand), sounds like a million others from him - fail to get you pumped? What if I told you Nothing Was The Same might also have an appearance from the songbird of our generation, Cheef Keef, in what would be one of the most interesting collabs of the year. Keef hit him on Twitter and Drake retweeted it, which means something might just be in the works. Hard to imagine how Keef and Drake’s sounds would blend, but I am all ears.

Also, If Drake is planning making a splash this summer, that would mean the album would have to come out next month right? If he wants his project to be the one people play all summer, then dropping it in August seems a little late. Maybe with the GQ spread and “On My Way” hitting the internetz, Drake already has a plan in the works. He would be remiss to rush the album in order to get it out this summer though, because with the caliber of work being released, Nothing Was The Same better be fire or it run the risks of being seen as a flop, regardless of sales. “If you ain’t first, you’re last!"
