Just the other day, we talked about the revamped, music-centered Myspace and how it couldn’t compete with Facebook and Twitter, even with the new music edge. I mean when two of your spokesmen, Chance The Rapper and Mac Miller aren’t using the site, it just isn’t going to work; especially now that Facebook is making a run at exclusive music and video content. To kick off the new venture, Facebook teamed up with Jay Z to release the striking visuals for “Holy Grail”, which features Myspace owner, Justin Timberlake. On the new partnership, which seems to be the first of many to come, Facebook’s head of content partnerships, Nick Grudin had this to say;

What we’re doing with Jay Z today is really exciting and we think emblematic of the evolution of music and how musicians can connect with their fans,…And we think that is particularly evident in Jay Z’s approach here, which will really allow him to go direct to a massive and instant global audience. It's something that only Facebook I think can really deliver in this way, given the scale of the audiences musicians have and the global nature of those audiences and the social dynamics of what happens when they engage on Facebook

I don’t want to do a reprise on the Myspace article so I’ll keep it short. Like Chance and Mac’s sparse activity on Myspace I think it speaks volumes to it’s lasting power when Timberlake an owner, has a song he is a part of premiere on another platform.

Anyway as for the video, I enjoyed this one much more than the Picasso Baby “Performance Art Film”. It is lavish, over-the-top and quite the spectacle - perfect for "MCHG" - but it doesn’t come off as pretentious like the Picasso Baby video did. I also thought the chopped and screwed parts were an interesting little ripple and made for a new listening experience. Also, any video that includes the Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglas fight is OK in my book.
