Rick Ross Continues to Bring Reebok Back With Workout MidPosted by Ru Porter on 04/23/12 | Filed under Rick Ross, QuickHits, Sneakers, Reebok |
In the mid-1980s if you were from New York City, and a fan of hip-hop and the sneaker culture you most likely wore a pair of Reeboks. Women rocked the “fifty-four-elevens” – Reebok Freestyle shoes that were meant for the gym, but could be worn with a nice pair of capris, jeans, shorts, sweats or leggings; while men sported the Workouts – a retro classic that cradles the foot with a custom fit that offers plenty of support for shooting in the gym.
Since then, many brands have entered the realm of sneakerdom, claiming to be a classic, but the truth is few have done it successfully. Fortunately, Reebok is one of them and more than 25 years later, the iconic brand is still having an impact in pop culture because the UK Footwear company has mastered the art of longevity while maintaining a classic style that has earned respect in the streets.
In March, Reebok teamed up with Ricky Rozay, Tyga and Mike Posner to launch a new campaign "It Takes A Lot to Make a Classic”, to highlight Reebok's "Icons" footwear collection -- Ex-o-Fit, Workout and Freestyle -- while celebrating its rich heritage as the Classics brand. Reebok's "Icons" campaign tells the story of each artist as they embark on their journey to one day become a classic in their own right, following them as they work tirelessly on their craft, running purely on their dreams and overcoming obstacles. Reebok Classics is celebrating that journey and seeking to inspire the work of creators everywhere through this campaign -- passing the torch to all the artists and innovators who have an unwavering hunger and persistence to achieve Classic status. So it’s only right that Ross is on board, as he knows a few things about everyday hustles.
In just six years, the Carol City native is on the verge of releasing his fifth studio album. Adding to his impressive lineup including thirteen singles, a compilation album, a soundtrack, forty music videos and now, he plans on being rich forever by helping Swizz Beatz bring Reebok back.
Non-sneaker heads will argue that the silhouette is just an updated version of the original from’87 (which makes sense because it’s their 25th anniversary), but real sneaker fanatics can never have too many pairs of the same shoe so none of that matters. All we care about is maintaining our fresh -- and personally, I would definitely rock these on my chill days during the summer.
The retail price is $80 at Jimmy Jazz (www.jimmyjazz.com and RuVilla https://www.ruvilla.com) where you can find the black, red, navy and white versions.
