Hate Listening to Waka Flocka & Nicki Minaj’s “Get Low” (Listen)

Posted by Nathan S. on 06/05/12 | Filed under Downloads, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, Waka Flocka, RefinedHate, Flo Rida
So, is Peter Rosenberg going to hit the Summer Jam stage next year screaming, "This ain't no 'Get Low' shit!!!"? I've come to make my peace with Waka Flocka Flame. Like a drunk uncle at the family reunion, you hit a point where you realize he's not going away, so you might as well enjoy his drunken ramblings. Waka is hip-hop's drunk uncle, and when I need a track to get me hyped enough to stab someone with a kitchen spoon yeah, sure, I'll throw on "Hard in the Paint". And a trip to an Atlanta strip club for A3C demonstrated that there's a place in the world for tracks like "Round of Applause" and "No Hands".

But why anyone would want to listen to Waka do the "girl, you're so special" thing on new single "Get Low" is beyond me. I mean, did the man really just say "her smile shine like the sunlight"? Someone needs to get Big Ghostface on the phone. Straight up, I'd rather listen to "O Let's Do It" until my eyes bleed than this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMtJS8jGnt8

But even some good old fashioned RefinedHate really isn't enough of a reason for me to post this. No, it was the presence of Nicki Minaj, who refers to herself as a "pop star" on the record, doing a pretty damn pop song with one the world's most "hood" rappers, on a day when everyone's debating pop vs. hip-hop, keeping it real vs. selling out, the hoods vs. the suburbs etc., that made have to post this.

Given the circumstances, is there a better example of rap's willingness seeming need to make that one hit pop record? Welcome to the mainstream Mr. Flame, it's now only a matter of time before you're on a Justin Bieber record.

Oh, and Tyga and Flo Rida do some shit too. Shrug. Waka's "Triple F Life" album is due to drop next week. At the very least we now know one of those "F"s stands for "fucking softer than a stick of melted butter.". Enjoy hating on this.
